Dr. Tom Walsh is an associate professor of urology at the University of Washington, director of Male Reproductive and Sexual Medicine at UW Medical Center, and a leader in men's health. He is a surgeon and researcher with expertise in male reproductive and sexual medicine and surgery. His goal is to provide the most innovative medical and surgical care for male infertility, erectile dysfunction, and Peyronie's disease.
Dr. Walsh's patient care philosophy is to provide state-of-the-art care for men with infertility or sexual dysfunction. He believes in a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach to evaluating and treating men's health conditions. He works closely with female reproductive health specialists to provide coordinated care for couples with infertility and incorporates advanced minimally invasive diagnostic and treatment methods into his practice. Dr. Walsh was named one of Seattle's Top Doctors by Seattle Magazine and Seattle Met Magazine (2011).
The most common conditions Dr. Walsh treats include male infertility, prior vasectomy, azoospermia, varicocele, ejaculatory dysfunction, ejaculatory duct obstruction, male contraception (vasectomy), male sexual dysfunction, erectile dysfunction, Peyronie's disease, and hypogonadism (low testosterone). His most common procedures include microsurgical vasectomy reversal, minimally invasive sperm retrieval, varicocele ligation, vascular surgery, vasectomy (no-scalpel technique), reconstructive surgery, and prosthetic implantation.
Dr. Walsh completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Oregon and graduated Phi Beta Kappa. He then earned his medical degree at Northwestern University, where he received the highest academic honors and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. Dr. Walsh completed general surgery and urology training at the University of Washington. During this time, he was a Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award scholar and earned a master's degree in epidemiology from the University of Washington School of Public Health. He completed a fellowship in male infertility and erectile dysfunction at the University of California, San Francisco, where he directed the UCSF Center for Male Reproductive Health before returning to the University of Washington School of Medicine.
Dr. Walsh leads an active research program focused on improving understanding of male reproductive failure and identifying effective treatments for male infertility. A national leader in male infertility and sexual dysfunction, he lectures nationally and internationally. His active memberships include the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, where he previously served on the Research Committee and moderates the organization's annual meeting; the Society for the Study of Male Reproduction; and the American Urological Association.
