Available Fertility Treatments

Ovulation Induction

Ovulation induction aims to produce multiple eggs to increase the chance of conception. Women who do not ovulate regularly may receive oral or injectable medication to support oocyte, or egg, development.

Intrauterine Insemination

Intrauterine insemination (IUI) is a form of artificial insemination in which sperm is placed directly into the uterine cavity at the optimal time for ovulation.

In Vitro Fertilization

In vitro fertilization (IVF) is the procedure most commonly associated with fertility treatment. Although IVF is not suitable for every patient, it has proven highly effective for many.

Egg Freezing

Egg freezing allows you to preserve your fertility. Freezing eggs while they are younger and healthier gives you greater flexibility to plan for future parenthood.

Donor Eggs, Sperm, and Embryos

For some patients, the path to parenthood requires the help of an egg, sperm, or embryo donor. Donors may be known or anonymous, and all are thoroughly screened.

Gestational Surrogacy

A gestational carrier is a woman who carries a pregnancy for someone else.

LGBTQ Fertility Options

Since opening in 1999, RMA has been at the forefront of LGBTQ+ fertility care. The Human Rights Campaign has recognized our commitment and expertise in caring for gay, lesbian, and transgender patients in a safe, professional environment.

Fertility Care for Single People

Many single women and men choose to build a family without a partner. Often referred to as single parents by choice, these patients can access fertility treatments at RMA.

Dr. Gutmann took excellent care of us throughout the process. She is candid and direct. We are very grateful for her personalized care and will always appreciate her and RMA. The financial team, nurses, and our assigned coordinator, TiQueen, also made an excellent impression. After trying different clinics for two years without success, we came to RMA, and our dream of becoming parents has finally come true. We will meet our little one in November.

I scheduled an initial consultation, but after reading something the doctor had said, I felt uncomfortable. Combined with some unpleasant experiences I had previously had in this country, I decided to cancel the appointment in time. The concept of patient service here is almost nonexistent: there is a lack of professionalism, the supposed empathy feels insincere, and they seem more concerned with collecting money than listening to or helping patients. I canceled within the required period, but I still receive daily payment demands by text and email for a consultation that never took place. I find this extremely disrespectful, and it further confirms my previous negative impression. I hope they improve their customer service and processes, because situations like this only increase patients' distrust.

We paid $18,000 out of pocket. They also send us an annual storage bill. If you had asked whether we needed storage, we would have said 'no' long ago! Let us grieve in peace! This is so painful.

Update: We spoke with clinic director Joe Maloney, who was very understanding. With his help, we resolved the issue and restored our trust in RMA. Our experience ultimately became disappointing because of misunderstandings about billing and insurance. Before testing, we were repeatedly told, verbally and in writing, that this provider was Tier 1 under our insurance plan. We proceeded based on those assurances. Afterward, we were told the provider was actually Tier 2 and that our costs would be much higher than expected. They said the insurer had provided incorrect information, but unfortunately RMA did not proactively resolve the issue and passed the charges on to us. Although the staff were responsive, we trusted the information they gave us and felt misled by the process.

After more than a year of trying and an early miscarriage, Dr. Gutmann and the RMA team helped me welcome my now five-month-old baby. There were minor billing issues, but they resolved them promptly. Patients should research, track insurance benefits, and communicate directly with insurers to ensure accurate billing. Staff at the downtown and Wayne clinics were friendly, welcoming, and supportive. We will always be grateful to RMA and recommend them without hesitation.

Dr. Gutmann is a professional and highly capable physician. She made an enormous, positive difference in my life. I trust her completely.

I spent two years receiving infertility care at RMA Philadelphia, including one full year of IVF. I was treated like a nameless patient, and my ‘plan’ was a flowchart with no personalization. They recommended a surrogate because pregnancy was supposedly very unlikely. Instead, I sought a second opinion from Dr. Manara in Voorhees, New Jersey. After one month and one embryo transfer, I became pregnant; my daughter is now five months old. I regret the time wasted at RMA but am grateful things improved despite their inability or unwillingness to help. Thank God.

The staff at RMA Philadelphia were very cold during my consultation. They rushed through the explanation and seemed unconcerned about my worries. My wife left more anxious than when we arrived. You would expect a fertility clinic to be compassionate and patient, but this clinic was exactly the opposite.

Scheduling an appointment here is a nightmare. My mother waited several weeks for an initial appointment, only for it to be canceled without warning. When she finally got in, the doctor seemed unprepared and indifferent. This poor scheduling and lack of care are simply unacceptable in this field.

⚠️ Do not go to RMA if you hope to use insurance, including Jefferson fertility insurance. (Or if you would rather feel like a patient than an item on a factory conveyor belt.) Jefferson should be ashamed to be associated with this profit-driven machine masquerading as an academic medical center. You would think that because RMA carries the Jefferson name, it would be a Tier 1 facility under Jefferson's top insurance plan, which includes fertility benefits with a $20,000 lifetime maximum. Wrong. Even with the best Jefferson plan, your insurance is almost useless here. Every visit, including ultrasounds, requires a $25 copay, usually followed by less than five minutes with a doctor or nurse practitioner. For an egg retrieval costing more than $6000, insurance covered only $253 and only 2 days of a 12-day medication course. Yes, the $6000 "lifetime maximum" covered about two days of medication. That does not include anesthesia fees and other "surprises" that appeared later. Their finance department moves with lightning speed to send bills or demand cash payment before your next appointment, after you have started medication. Do they show compassion or transparency or provide practical insurance guidance? Not at all. Once you begin the procedure, they add a procedural "deductible" that is somehow Tier 3, even though the procedure is performed at what they call their Tier 1 clinic. Complete scam artists. Do not be misled by the Jefferson branding. RMA is a national for-profit organization that uses academic credentials as a façade, prioritizes cash, and preys on hopeful women during one of the most emotional and vulnerable periods of their lives. They charge boutique prices but feel like a walk-in clinic, with unfamiliar faces coming and going, rushed visits, and a finance team that can quote your payment plan precisely but cannot explain your coverage. When I asked which services were covered and which were not, my financial contact Janelly told me, "You have to ask your insurance company." My insurance company, of course, said everything appeared to be Tier 1, including the Wayne clinic where the procedure was performed. I waited a year for an egg retrieval because I thought my top-tier Jefferson insurance would offset the cost, and I was profoundly disappointed. Angry does not begin to describe it. Communication was terrible. When I asked about the center's complication rates, after receiving hours' worth of contracts stating that RMA was not liable even for negligence, I received no response. No one proactively discussed my cycle, and every visit felt rushed and impersonal. The entire process felt like a scam in a white coat. Please do yourself a favor and choose a genuinely patient-centered, Tier 1 fertility center, such as Penn Fertility Care or Main Line Fertility in the Philadelphia area. I only learned that these were Tier 1 by speaking directly with my insurance company. I wish someone, especially my doctor, had told me a year earlier. She knew I had diminished ovarian reserve and wanted to wait until my fertility insurance became active before beginning treatment, but she never mentioned that RMA is essentially cash-pay even under Jefferson's "best" plan. Had I known, I could have made a better decision: either pay cash earlier for a higher potential return or seek higher-quality care elsewhere with lower out-of-pocket costs. I now realize I am not the only person with this experience. I had seen similar reviews, but assumed that with Jefferson insurance, the most "Tier 1" facility would surely be a Jefferson-affiliated one. Wrong. Wrong. Wrong. I hope this helps others avoid the same mistake. Penn Fertility Care is a nonprofit academic institution, and if this experience had not left me completely fed up with the entire treatment process, I would seek future treatment there.

Thank you to Dr. Gutmann and his team for the attentive care, guidance, and support throughout my IVF journey. I will always be grateful for the doctors' care and support. Thank you for making our dream come true.

As a patient, we have the right to our medical records under HIPAA in 30 days. I had an absolutely terrible time trying to get my medical records sent to my new provider. The admin of this company is a mess and extremely unprofessional (read, not the receptionists, but everyone behind the scenes). My persistent requests to get my medical records sent to my new doctor were handled poorly, including multiple calls for over a month and often I have been treated like I was calling for the first time. I was told all medical records are centralized and was the reason why my request was taking so long. It's 2025, with everything digitized I do not see an excuse for a delay like this, especially when I am relaying the request was urgent. The customer relations manager I spoke to initially apologized, but quickly fell off and was rude, dismissive, and passed the buck of trying to resolve the issue I was having. I called them saying my new clinic still had not received my files. They just said "they had been sent" and like they did the best they could. The task had not been completed! I told them, despite them "being sent," my new clinic still had not received them! They refused to work with me to solve the issue and acted like what I was requesting was impossible. Their unprofessionalism cost me time, money, and a DELAY IN MY FERTILITY JOURNEY. This is what you are dealing with if you are going to RMA. I'm sure you could go there and get good results, but if THIS is how this SIMPLE ISSUE is being treated, I cannot imagine how other things behind the scenes are being handled. I originally wanted to leave this clinic because of the false advertisement of the "Center City" location. If you need any testing or treatments done on the weekend, you need to go to Wayne, PA. I live in Center City and do not have a car. This should have been communicated more clearly to me when I started my journey. If they saw my address, they should have raised more of a flag to me. Instead, it was clear they just wanted my money. This location issue is why I initially wanted to leave. I would have left quietly if that was only the case. However, with this medical records delay and HIPAA violation, I am glad I did not give them the business of my future treatments.

Despite low odds, my egg retrieval and embryo transfer went wonderfully and resulted in a successful pregnancy. My baby was born early this summer. Dr. Gutmann is the best, and I will definitely return to him when we decide to grow our family again.

I will try to keep this review objective and fair. Before choosing RMA, three different couples warned us about different issues. We did not encounter many of those problems and were generally satisfied with the medical care. The service staff were friendly and did excellent work. Our problem was with management, which accepted no responsibility. This resembled one couple's experience, although theirs was medical and ours financial. In late December 2024, a doctor explained the process and pulled up our insurance on her computer. She directly stated that our preliminary work, laboratory tests, and other preparation were covered and recommended starting immediately. We knew we had not met our 2024 deductible, but hearing ‘covered’ led us to expect a bill of $50 or perhaps a few hundred dollars. Our December care cost more than $1,000. I was shocked but paid it. In March, an insurance-industry friend heard the story and immediately asked whether we had waited until the new year to start treatment. Ultimately, patients are responsible for understanding coverage, but what we were directly told was inappropriate, especially in late December. Several medical and insurance professionals said that if a doctor was going to advise us about insurance and timing, the obvious recommendation should have been to wait until January 1 because many medical expenses were expected. Most were surprised the doctor discussed insurance rather than referring us to the financial team. They suggested explaining the situation to RMA and asking them to waive the final bill of about $700. RMA said they could not waive the patient portion but would not clearly explain why. The professionals I consulted said this made no sense. I returned to RMA asking for another fair solution. From March/April through August, I discussed this with Jodie B. in finance through countless messages and intermittent replies. This week they finally said they could do nothing. In short, they consider it my fault and will not help find a solution. I accept my responsibility. In hindsight, it was foolish not to wait two weeks or ask for exact costs, but RMA did recommend starting in December and said it was covered. I trusted their guidance, which was my mistake. I still believe they could offer some remedy, even a credit toward future services. Based on our experience and other feedback, remember that some practices put patients first and others put business first. Our issue was financial, but it resembles other feedback about RMA. Be very careful when working with them because business comes first. I still believe RMA can correct this situation and hope they will contact me if they want to resolve it.

The professionalism and warmth are exactly what you would expect from a service like this. Thank you all so much.

I love RMA. They are not only responsive and kind, but also thorough in their process. After 5 failed IUIs at Penn Fertility, I switched to RMA. After one IUI at RMA, I am now pregnant! They monitored me closely and were excellent at answering every question I asked. If anyone is struggling at another clinic, consider switching to RMA. Update: I am pregnant for a second time, this time through IVF, and became pregnant on the first attempt at RMA. They are like family now :)

Currently 23 weeks pregnant and could not have had a better experience. Everyone was extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful throughout the process. Thank you, RMA!

ETA: Unfortunately, I have to change this to one star. I cannot recommend RMA until they get their billing and claims processes in order. The finance department knows nothing about bills or claims. They send you from one person to another and eventually have you contact billing, but those staff members often know nothing either. After months of RMA continuing to submit claims to an insurance company I had never heard of, despite my repeatedly providing the correct insurance information, I still have no resolution. It is truly a shame that management has made no attempt to address these systemic problems. ETA: Unfortunately, I have to revise my previous review below from 5 stars to 4. I recently had many problems with the finance department, including their billing the wrong insurance company for some procedures, oddly not all, and difficulty communicating with them. I spent over a month trying to get an answer to a simple question. RMA also failed to submit a claim, and the filing deadline has now passed. Finance is a weak point for an otherwise excellent clinic. Previous review: Overall, I had a wonderful experience at RMA. Dr. Gutmann listened carefully to my goals and provided expert advice about my options. She always made it clear that the steps I took were ultimately my choice. At age 40, I became pregnant on my first IVF attempt. I am very grateful to the doctor and staff for all their help. Some staff members were not as helpful as others, but that is true anywhere you visit or visit frequently. Overall, I was deeply impressed by the doctors' and staff's knowledge and patient-centered care. Regarding the staff, I have to say that I was especially impressed by the kindness of Margot (sp?), Jen, and a senior nurse named Jen. There is one major area for improvement: their app for tracking results and their email. The app resets with every cycle, so you have no information from previous cycles. Incredibly annoying! As for email, when they force you to use the app to communicate, messages are almost unreadable because the font is so small and there is no way to enlarge it, even by increasing the phone's font-size setting. In addition, when they do use a separate email system outside the app, it deletes emails after a few months, again making it very difficult to track progress, find previously provided information, and more. These issues truly need to be fixed. But ultimately, I am about to become a mother, so they did not stop me.
