Our Practice

The physicians and staff are so pleased you have chosen Camelback Women’s Health! We are a comprehensive obstetrics and gynecology practice committed to providing excellent health care for women of all ages, from adolescence to post-menopause, we are here to help you through life’s changes.

Our History

Dr.’s DeSanto, Nelson, and Schwartz worked closely together in the OB/Gyn department of Arizona Physician’s Center, a large hospital-owned, multi-specialty practice.

The physicians made the decision to resign from Arizona Physicians Center in May of 2000. We officially became Camelback Women’s Health on September 15, 2000, a physician owned and independently operated.   We were fortunate to be part of Camelback Women’s Health’s growth over the years with the addition of dedicated Women’s Health Nurse Practitioners, as well as in-office ultrasound and mammography.

In 2023, Camelback Women’s Health was acquired by Unified Women’s Healthcare:

Unified empowers women’s health providers at 925+ locations to transform women’s healthcare experiences for their patients, while preserving clinical autonomy and supporting innovation and practice growth. With Unified focusing on the business of medicine, our affiliate ObGyns can focus solely on the practice of medicine. Our medical affiliates boast an average patient satisfaction rating of 4.8 out of 5 stars, and many have served local families for multiple generations.

I called and scheduled an appointment at the Tatum location for 1:30 p.m. Fortunately, I arrived early because the receptionist told me I was at the wrong place. My appointment had been moved to 32nd Street, far from my home, at 2 p.m. I had written down the appointment details while they gave them to me, and my calendar showed Tatum at 1:30 p.m. I suppose the Tatum location does not welcome new patients. The 32nd Street clinic had much better customer service, so thank you for unknowingly moving me somewhere better.

I feel valued and cared for here. I have been seeing Dr. Jen here for almost 8 years.

The worst experience of my life - dangerous and coercive care If I could give zero stars, I would. My pregnancy had been going very well until I began weekly checkups at 36 weeks. That was when everything went downhill. 36 weeks: The nurse walked in and said, 'We are doing a cervical examination and GBS swab today,' as though it had already been decided. I told her I wanted to wait on the GBS swab and did not want a cervical examination. Instead of respecting my decision, Dr. Schwartz rushed in without even saying hello and demanded that I have the GBS swab because 'it is standard care.' When I repeated that I wanted to wait, she told me I had to sign an AMA form, which I agreed to, but then threatened, 'Fine, then I will treat you.' She implied that if I went into labor, she would give me antibiotics without my consent, then casually mentioned, 'I have not had a baby die from GBS yet, but I had one come very close.' I could not believe she was using fear instead of providing information. It was clear she had no interest in my consent or choices. 37 weeks: This visit was perfunctory. She walked in, said only what was necessary, and left quickly, as though she could not be bothered. 38 weeks: I had the GBS swab, and it was painful. It should not hurt; it is a simple swab. Again, she said she hoped the results would return on time because a baby had nearly died. The constant fearmongering was exhausting. 39 weeks: Dr. Schwartz did not even pretend to care about my feelings or health. She announced that if I did not go into labor by the following week, at 41 weeks, I would be induced because 'too many babies die,' citing a recent case involving fetal meconium. There was no discussion, no explanation of risks, and no alternatives such as ultrasound or nonstress testing. She treated me like a child and stripped me of the right to make decisions about my own body. As we left, she confronted my sister, who had accompanied me, and belittled the advice she had given me because she had delivered at home. Dr. Schwartz sarcastically suggested that if I intended to 'refuse everything,' I should also give birth at home. I left feeling humiliated and afraid, worried for the safety of children in her care. This should have been a beautiful and empowering experience, but Dr. Schwartz turned it into a nightmare. I was coerced into procedures, my autonomy was disregarded, and I was made to feel like a bad mother simply because I wanted information and the ability to make my own choices. I would not wish this experience on anyone. If you care about your right to make decisions during pregnancy and to be treated with respect, stay away from this practice.

I recently saw Toni at the MedSpa. I was very pleased by how attentively she listened to my expectations. The results were excellent. I highly recommend her and Camelback Women's MedSpa.

I wish I could give a lower rating. Rebecca is prejudiced and will not help you if your sexual orientation is anything other than heterosexual. She preached to me in a way that was extremely offensive and bigoted. I have contacted my lawyer, and if she remains employed, we will hold the entire practice accountable. This is not a safe place.
