I received outside monitoring for in vitro fertilization (IVF) at Oregon Fertility Institute. Dr. Chang and her staff had poor attitudes, and I felt as though my presence was an inconvenience. The only friendly staff member was the phlebotomist. Because I was an outside monitoring patient, Dr. Chang required me to prepay half the cost of each visit, with the balance billed to my insurance company. I saw Dr. Chang from June 9 to November 26, 2025, and she owes me approximately $3,500 for charges that have since been processed by my insurance company. For several claims, the insurer requested additional information from Dr. Chang before it could process them, but her staff refused to provide it and therefore also refused to refund the money owed to me. The staff told me I could submit the required information myself if I wanted, but I could not because I do not have access to the portal between Dr. Chang's office and the insurance company. When I explained this, their response was, 'That's not my problem.' I have UnitedHealthcare, and according to them, Dr. Chang violated her established agreement with the insurer by collecting payment in advance. UnitedHealthcare also stated that if a claim is denied because supplemental information was not provided, Dr. Chang should fully refund what I paid. I have filed an appeal with UnitedHealthcare in hopes that they can help recover the money Dr. Chang owes me. IVF is already extremely stressful, and Dr. Chang and her team made it worse. IVF is expensive enough without a clinic refusing to return money rightfully owed to patients. This is disgraceful. Dr. Chang is part of the problem in healthcare, and I strongly advise against using her for outside IVF monitoring.

I highly recommend Oregon Fertility Institute! Dr. Zhang is very kind, knowledgeable, and professional. The staff at Oregon Fertility Institute are always responsive and supportive. I was with Oregon Fertility Institute for nearly two years and felt exceptionally cared for throughout the process. Dr. Zhang took the time to get to know me and developed the best plan for my needs. I am now holding my 10-day-old son. He would not be here without Dr. Zhang and her wonderful team, and I will be forever grateful. 💙

Do not go to this clinic! Dr. Zhang kept insisting that I had to lose weight before IUI, even though I only weighed 200 pounds (about 90 kilograms). They charge for everything but do not tell you until payment is due. For example, they charged me $75 to thaw sperm—are you kidding? She also told me to buy two vials, then said on the day of the appointment that I only needed one, so we bought the other for nothing. Overall, the front desk staff were rude, every appointment felt rushed, and I spent a total of about 5 minutes with Dr. Zhang each time. During the IUI, a lot of fluid came out even though the catheter was inserted through the cervix. My partner said it looked like semen, but she said it was my discharge. I do not feel she took my partner or me seriously. Honestly, go to another fertility clinic. I was in a hurry because I had already been trying for over a year. Save yourself the trouble and go directly to ORM or any other fertility clinic.

The doctor is very kind. The staff are very rude and indifferent. Even though they had my insurance on file, they would not contact my insurer and charged me directly.

Because our embryos were in another state, Dr. Zhang's clinic was the only practice in the Portland metropolitan area that could provide outside monitoring for us. This was essential for monitoring every stage of our two FETs during and after the COVID pandemic. Dr. Zhang was very supportive and excited for us throughout our post-transfer journey.

After several years with another local clinic and multiple failed IVF attempts, we transferred our care to Dr. Zhang. I wish I had done it sooner. Dr. Zhang is kind, knowledgeable, and genuinely wants to help you succeed. She is truly a good person and an excellent doctor. She took time to understand our situation, supported us through several ups and downs, and when we could finally complete another cycle, she helped us succeed on the first attempt. She was meticulous and thoughtful and did her best to carry out the protocol she created for me. She works collaboratively with patients, listens to them, and never dismisses them or their concerns. It was an absolute pleasure to work with her. I highly recommend her!

I do not usually leave reviews, but Dr. Chang changed my life. After three failed IVF cycles at another clinic, we contacted Dr. Chang's office on a friend's recommendation. Dr. Chang and her staff were professional, and the experience was better in every way. She did not write me off because of advanced maternal age or poor fertility labs. She listened and gave me a chance, which I felt the previous clinic had not done. Reproductive endocrinology truly is both an art and a science. Within two cycles, we had a viable embryo, and our healthy baby girl is now three months old. I wish we had started with Oregon Fertility Institute. It would have saved substantial money and time while reducing the physical, mental, and emotional exhaustion that IVF itself can cause. If IVF is the next step in your fertility journey, I highly recommend Dr. Chang and Oregon Fertility Institute.

I appreciated seeing the same doctor throughout the IVF process, and I genuinely liked Dr. Chang. I think the clinic would benefit from an NP or clinic manager so Dr. Chang could focus on patient details. My right fallopian tube was completely blocked. This was visible on ultrasound, but I was triggered twice and one embryo was wasted.

This review comes from someone who has managed two medical offices and handled high-volume medical reception work at another. It was also my husband's and my first experience with an IVF clinic. Pros: - Dr. Chang is very kind and seems genuinely invested in our success. - The clinic is conveniently located and clean. - The phlebotomist was good. - We obtained embryos. Cons: - Test results were lost, orders were confused, calendars were sent incorrectly, and you will have to repeat yourself dozens of times. - Staff need training on the computer system, medical concepts, and terminology. Many incorrect things were said and done. They also need training in timely responses. Almost every time we completed testing, I was told OFI had not received the report, even though I knew they had because I always called the outside laboratory first. I do not know whether they were lying directly to me or truly did not know how to receive reports efficiently and post them to patient charts. I am glad I know how to manage a medical office and could essentially manage my own care. - 99% of testing is sent out. - I do not think we were ever greeted when we entered. I always had to initiate. Having worked in medical offices, I know a welcoming front desk matters. I do not think anyone remembered us, and apart from Dr. Chang, no one seemed to enjoy their job—perhaps except one phlebotomist. - The practice is very old-fashioned. Little is electronic. It needs modernization, especially to stay current with new procedures and research. - The clinic clearly needs an NP or MA, or both, and a patient care coordinator. Patient care is unclear or unexplained. You should know what will happen, and when you do not, your questions are often unanswered. Overall, we had higher hopes. We appreciate that they got us to our current point, but we overlooked many warning signs during the process.

As most people say, Dr. Chang is very kind and compassionate, and you can tell she wants the best for her patients. I have never encountered ruder medical staff, by phone or in person. Harsh phone greetings, eye-rolling, and curt answers made it seem as though they did not want to be there or that I was the problem. Beyond the consistently poor attitude and lack of care for patients going through an emotional time, I repeatedly received incorrect information that changed our IVF process. I always had to remind them or Dr. Chang of information from earlier appointments, even though they had their own records. Ultimately, we had to transfer to a new IVF clinic to continue our care.

Dr. Chang is generally very kind and helpful. Her staff are among the rudest and coldest people imaginable. During such a sensitive and stressful time in a couple's life, you expect kindness and attention to detail. Instead, the information communicated and documents provided—when they are actually provided—consistently contain errors. We received information stating that the IVF down payment was $1,100. After completing the IVF consultation process, we were told, "Actually, the down payment is $11,000. I just forgot an extra zero." There was no apology or consideration of how this would change our family-planning decisions—nothing. Completely unacceptable. The staff made my wife feel unimportant and uncared for. This should be a top priority when choosing a fertility clinic, but OFI failed badly.
