Because of changes in my life, I did not consider freezing my eggs until I was 40 years old. I was honestly very hesitant. At first, I strongly resisted IVF because it seemed to confirm indirectly that something was wrong or lacking in me, and I was also worried about how difficult and exhausting the fertility journey would be. Based on my previous experience, preventive antibiotics were added this time, and the embryo implanted and developed successfully. However, during week 6, I suddenly passed a large amount of blood clots in the middle of the night. I was in Taichung and could not immediately return to Taipei. I decided to freeze my eggs because my AMH level was below average for my age and under 3. My treatment mainly involved a long-acting injection combined with daily injections. A nurse could administer the long-acting injection during a follow-up visit, which relieved a great deal of anxiety. Reactions to the injections vary from person to person. I felt slightly dizzy after injections early in treatment and experienced bloating later as the follicles grew, but both were tolerable and did not affect my work or daily life. Egg retrieval was performed under sedation. The anesthesiologist conducted a preoperative assessment, and retrievals were usually performed by the doctor on duty that day. The entire process went smoothly. I underwent four retrieval cycles in total. On one occasion, I began another cycle soon after the previous one, but the results were not as good as expected. I would recommend waiting at least one month before the next cycle to allow the body to recover. I am very grateful that Dr. Hung adjusted my injections and extended the interval between the trigger injection and retrieval because I did not respond well to the trigger. As a result, my final cycle yielded the most eggs. In addition, the nurses and administrative staff were very gentle and friendly, and their professionalism was reassuring. Each staff member fulfilled their role and paid close attention to detail. I never felt confused or overwhelmed during treatment. This is a very convenient arrangement for patients in the Hualien area. At Dianthus in Taipei, Director Liao personally provided my care. Because of the urgency of my breast cancer treatment schedule, she promptly arranged treatment and started injections on the day of my first visit. The nurses provided detailed education, and questions could be asked through LINE for prompt responses, reducing anxiety and uncertainty. The clinic environment and layout are comfortable and not intimidating. Patients and coordinators of different nationalities were present, creating a diverse and professional medical environment. At another clinic, three transfers of PGS-tested embryos failed. Every available test was done, yet the renowned director offered no clear solution and treated me like I was on an assembly line. Every embryo is precious, and this is not how an IVF doctor should practice. We changed clinics. The director at the first clinic we consulted was vague and dismissive, so we went to Dr. Lin at Dianthus. I had found her by chance online and sensed she would take every case seriously. I was right. When I said other doctors believed every possible cause had been excluded, Dr. Lin replied that there must be a cause they had not found and promised to look for it. Bloating resolved after three days, and I recovered quickly with rest. If you are uncertain about the future, egg freezing while young may be worth considering. 1. During my initial consultation, I was told that egg retrieval would cost 90,000–120,000. I was also told that the injections before retrieval would be charged according to the dosage, and that PGS chromosome testing would cost extra and was not included in the retrieval cycle. This seemed reasonable. Even on the day of retrieval, I thought my total would be just over 120,000 at most, excluding PGS. After the retrieval, I was shocked to be charged more than 140,000. PGS would be charged later, when the embryos were biopsied, so why did one egg retrieval cost so much? I want to understand why my retrieval cost more than other people's. Which procedures were required for my retrieval? Why was I not given a form to sign at my pre-retrieval appointment informing me that one retrieval would cost more than 140,000? Which treatments were required? 2. Regarding the immunology testing, Dr. Wu asked us to go home and consider whether to do it. At the next blood draw, they took extra blood first and only said it would be discarded if we decided against the testing. Why did they draw so much extra blood? It felt somewhat coercive. 3. When the immunology report showed low albumin, nobody explained the next steps. Dr. Wu only asked me to visit a specialist immunology hospital for repeat testing and bring the report back. If so, why not direct me to an immunology specialist for blood tests from the beginning? The immunology department charged only a registration fee and tested more items. My husband and I told the immunologist that we had already paid for immunology testing at Dianthus MFM & IVF Center and had come for repeat testing. The immunologist also said immunology should be handled by a specialist. Dr. Wu's explanation of the chromosome results was also unclear and made my condition sound very serious. I spent the entire day frightened, and we then visited a genetics specialist at a medical center. The genetics specialist professionally explained and analyzed everything point by point, which made me feel much more at ease. I felt that despite the money we spent at Dianthus MFM & IVF Center, the clinic did not provide a corresponding level of expertise. These experiences confirmed our decision to transfer to another clinic for implantation. My husband had expected that after the testing, immunology work, and chromosome analysis at Dianthus MFM & IVF Center, Dr. Wu would provide specific experience and explanations if we had questions or needed report analysis. Perhaps our expectations were too idealistic. After completing paid tests there, Dr. Wu told us to find specialists ourselves for repeat testing and report analysis. We went back and forth, wasting valuable time and money. 4. I called that morning to report the issue. The morning staff said they had recorded my questions and would ask the evening supervisor to call me, but nobody did. I had to keep calling, and the call was repeatedly transferred while I listened to hold music. I eventually asked the staff member whether someone could call me back. I kept hearing the ringtone, but nobody answered. Later, the staff member said she would transfer me to a supervisor. The female supervisor spoke very harshly. My own tone was not very good at that point either, and she snapped back that I could file a complaint if I wanted and that they also had legal counsel. I have a recording. 5. After I completed the transfer paperwork, the staff member still did not transfer the records and called again asking Dianthus MFM & IVF Center to handle it. Internal communication here is poor and highly commercialized, with problems passed from person to person. *I originally received care at Mao X, but Dr. Lin there had too many patients, so we came to Dianthus MFM & IVF Center for a consultation. The clinic had few patients and short waits, which was why we decided to undergo IVF here. (Dr. Wu is kind and enthusiastic, but after several appointments, I felt the immunology and chromosome reports were not analyzed professionally or carefully. When problems arose after paid testing, there was no follow-up discussion, and we had to make several trips to other hospitals for further consultations and tests.) My husband and I married later in life and always agreed that we wanted children, but after being married for some time, I still had not become pregnant. On a friend's recommendation, we began exploring assisted reproduction at the end of 2019. Initially, we knew little about assisted reproduction, so for our first treatment we went directly to a clinic recommended by a friend. Preliminary testing showed that my AMH was extremely low at only 0.41, indicating severely diminished ovarian function and a very low chance of natural conception. The doctor told us that the only treatment available to improve our chance of pregnancy was IVF, in which eggs and sperm are fertilized outside the body and the resulting embryo is then transferred into the uterus. Five eggs were retrieved, producing three successfully fertilized embryos. Because of my age, all three embryos could be transferred at once, but none implanted. After our first failed IVF cycle, our savings rapidly diminished, and we also faced the painful realization that spending a great deal of money does not guarantee a successful pregnancy. Deeply discouraged by this failure, we decided to take a year off. When we returned to IVF treatment a year later, we met Dr. Liu Chih-Hung and learned that an older woman like me, who produced only one egg per retrieval, needed to use time wisely by banking embryos through multiple retrievals, then transferring them together or in stages once enough had been collected. Dr. Liu also suggested a faster route to pregnancy: donor eggs. This required overcoming many emotional barriers. The first time I heard this recommendation, I broke down and cried in front of the doctor. I had not realized how difficult it would be for me to become pregnant. Freezing my eggs was an important decision. I was already over 30 and had never had my AMH tested. After doing some research, I visited a well-known fertility center for a consultation and blood test. The results showed that my AMH was far lower than that of other women my age. I was very upset and immediately decided that I wanted to spend six months improving my egg health before undergoing egg freezing. Looking back, I was carrying twins yet remained active until delivery at 37 weeks, and both babies were born healthy and strong. Although caring for two babies at once is difficult now, I am very grateful I made this decision. Having children was never part of my life plan. I began treatment because it was my father's wish, and after thinking about it for a year, I decided to use the fastest route to pregnancy, IVF, and booked a consultation at the fertility center. I learned about Dr. Chen through Zháinü Xiaohong's program, and through this chance connection she became my attending physician. My initial examination found polycystic ovaries but no other issues apart from advanced age XD, so I began treatment. Fortunately, a large number of eggs were retrieved on the first attempt. While waiting for my ovaries to recover, I had a hysteroscopy and sent the embryos for PGS testing. I conceived after the first transfer of a top-grade embryo, but unfortunately experienced a missed miscarriage at eight weeks. Because top-grade embryos have a low miscarriage rate, Dr. Chen recommended immune testing during my recovery. After confirming that there was no immune issue, I could begin another transfer cycle after my next period. Unfortunately, the second transfer resulted only in a biochemical pregnancy. The following month, I began a third cycle and transferred two low-level mosaic embryos. On pregnancy test day, my HCG was as high as 2800! According to Taiwan's Health Promotion Administration, one in every 7 couples in Taiwan experiences infertility, and unfortunately we were one of them. We did not use contraception after marriage and regularly tried to conceive, but nothing happened. Further testing showed that we were an infertile couple. The news came as a tremendous shock, and we found it emotionally impossible to accept. We had always felt that pregnancy and childbirth were choices available to us, but now we might be unable to have children. My husband and I were deeply disappointed. By chance, we saw a Ministry of Health and Welfare advertisement about subsidies for infertility treatment, which gave us a glimmer of hope. After searching for a doctor specializing in our cause of infertility, we found Dr. Liu Chih-Hung at Dianthus. Dr. Liu is calm and gentle, giving patients a sense of stability. He is also very willing to explain things, and anxiety disappears in the consultation room. We began IVF treatment around October of year 111, undergoing two egg retrievals and four embryo transfers. The first 3 transfers all failed. Dr. Liu believed the embryos from that batch were of poor quality and had chromosomal abnormalities that prevented implantation. After another egg retrieval plus PGS, the transfer implanted successfully, and we graduated from Dianthus in October of year 112. In addition to the excellent doctor, Dianthus's facilities and digital services were reassuring. The Taipei fertility center is designed to feel warm and inviting, with many sofas where patients can rest upon entering. Although every visit involved a long wait because the doctor had many patients, the comfortable, relaxing environment was reassuring. Small snacks were also available beside the drinking water, which helped when we were hungry. The app was also an excellent tool. In addition to a convenient appointment system and intuitive interface, it contained all my medical records, including blood test results and ultrasound images, so I did not have to worry about forgetting any information. I could also view the number and details of my frozen embryos through the app, which was very convenient. In May of year 113, I gave birth to an adorable baby born in the Year of the Dragon. Fortunately, we chose to give ourselves a chance and found Dianthus and Dr. Liu. That is how we were able to meet our lovely baby. Our path to parenthood may have been more difficult and expensive than it is for many couples, but because we took a different path from most, we can better empathize with and understand the hardship of trying to conceive. 113/05/18 IVF On 6/1, our 11th attempt finally succeeded. From my first IVF cycle onward, I kept looking for the reasons for failure and changed reproductive doctors four times. I ultimately chose Dr. Chen Ching-Hui at Dianthus, known as the ‘two-line best friend.’ She says little but is concise and clear, which I like. She directly recommended ERA and other combined tests, and I completed every test suggested, yet faced repeated disappointment, broke down, left my job to recover, and started again. With Dr. Chen, my egg yield increased and the quality was excellent. I sent embryos for PGS, but only one qualified; its transfer also failed. I decided to retrieve and store eggs in year 111, focus on work in 112, and transfer on 113/01/06. Acute cholecystitis and surgery forced me to cancel. I suddenly decided to transfer in May and went directly to the clinic when my period began. Dr. Chen again asked what I wanted, but I had no ideas left, so I entrusted everything to her and simply followed the plan. Transfer was set for 5/18. On 5/16 I bought a large brown bag as a lucky symbol for success and a baby, then brought it to the transfer and bought a bun each day afterward, again symbolizing a baby. Unexpectedly, the doctor added atosiban to support implantation and used a different medication approach. I accepted every method, obediently ate fries, wore yellow socks to the transfer, and brought home bobo chicken and bowl rice cake. Eleven IVF cycles and five earlier IUIs, plus many tests, were expensive. The medication this time was very different, and I thank Dr. Chen and the other Dianthus doctors for discussing my case. I honestly think she must have grown tired of seeing me 😂😂😂—it was such a difficult case. Most importantly, thank you to Dr. Chen for not giving up on me. The twins are now at 22 weeks, and feeling them move is deeply emotional. I am very grateful that our doctor gave my husband and me the opportunity to become parents. 🥰🥰

Because of my career plans and the irreversible biological clock, I decided to freeze my eggs before moving abroad, giving my future more options and flexibility. On a doctor friend’s recommendation, I chose Dianthus Fertility Center and underwent egg freezing with Dr. Chen Ching-Hui. On retrieval day, the nurses were kind, and the anesthesiologist carefully confirmed my identity and asked about medication allergies. These details eased my anxiety. The nurses monitored me closely in recovery. Once fully awake, I felt well with little discomfort. They carefully explained postoperative precautions and thoughtfully provided a light meal after the overnight fast. Recovery was smooth, and I felt normal enough to view homes and dine with my husband in Linkou that afternoon. A total of 21 eggs were frozen. I am very grateful to Director Chen Ching-Hui and the Dianthus Fertility Center nurses for their attentive care, especially for timely professional medical consultations while I was in the United States, which helped me feel supported abroad. After consideration, I chose to complete an egg-freezing cycle at Nuwa Fertility Center. It was an experience worth sharing and documenting. First consultation Before treatment, I had an initial consultation and blood tests. My AMH was only 1.15. Perhaps because I became pregnant at an advanced maternal age, I could conceive naturally but my embryos did not develop well. I had two previous anembryonic miscarriages at ages 37 and 40. Now over 40, and because miscarriage was so hard on my body, I decided on IVF with PGS. I came to Dianthus after visiting another reproductive center. If it were rated like a hotel, Dianthus's entire medical team's professionalism and service, as well as its clinical equipment, would unquestionably deserve 5 stars. The money was very well spent. 【Success after two IVF cycles for an immune-related case】 My reproductive specialist was Dr. Chen Ching-Hui, and my immunology specialist was Dr. Lu Chun-Chi, with Dr. Li Ya-Chi covering when appointment times did not align. Before the first IVF cycle, I had AMH, FSH, thyroid, and HSG tests, all normal. After transfer, however, we unexpectedly discovered that I might have immune-related fertility issues. To exclude every possible factor, I also had hysteroscopy, which found no significant problems. My immune-test reports from two hospitals actually had no abnormal results, only one value close to the abnormal range that might have risen after transfer because of physical changes. From my twenties until before age thirty, I did not really want children, but as I grew older I began wanting a child of my own. My husband and I had blood tests and a semen analysis, all normal, but I still did not become pregnant. Only after my mother heard from someone that I should have my fallopian tubes checked did I learn the true cause. The report showed that my tubes were inflamed, swollen, and blocked 🥹 In 109/8, I decided to undergo laparoscopic surgery to open and clear them first.
