They barely deserve one star, solely because some of the doctors are skilled and knowledgeable. Unfortunately, the rest of the staff are a complete mess. I am currently dealing with a privacy-breach nightmare involving ENT that has seriously endangered my entire family. I served them with court documents explicitly prohibiting disclosure of my daughter's information to a specific person because she is dangerous. Despite consulting them four times about this, they still violated the order and allowed this person to access my daughter's MyChart, appointment information, and more. My daughter needs another surgery, and I am trying to reach anyone willing to transfer her records to the new hospital where she will be treated because I no longer feel safe or comfortable here. They clearly hire anyone without providing any training, which is deeply disappointing. The University of Chicago was once prestigious, but I would never return now, even if my life depended on it. The waiting areas and rooms are also dirty and cluttered, with dust everywhere. It is disgusting.

The appointment service is terrible! They have no option at all to schedule as a self-pay patient!! What is going on?! They should provide a link so people can pay online before the appointment and easily schedule as self-pay!!!! Then they cancel your appointment without notice! They say you must be “approved” to self-pay?!?! Then they schedule you a month later because they canceled your original appointment!!! How do they “approve” you to self-pay??? There are no criteria, and they did not record any of my information. They simply called to say my self-pay request was approved, but my appointment had been moved back a month!!!! The entire process makes no sense!!! I am shocked.

I have been a patient at the University of Chicago since 1999. I love my doctor and nutrition team. Over the years, I have found no other place that cares for patients as attentively, so I highly recommend the University of Chicago for all your healthcare needs. I have also visited many other hospitals in the Chicago area.

I am extremely disappointed with this hospital’s valet service. Although valet staff are often the first people patients and visitors encounter, this experience was ruined by the afternoon supervisor’s behavior. He treated employees disrespectfully and unprofessionally, and the way he spoke to team members was uncomfortable to witness. Compassion and empathy should be paramount in a healthcare setting, which makes his lack of both especially concerning. His tone and treatment of employees reflected poor leadership and created a negative atmosphere inconsistent with the hospital’s expected standards. Management should seriously review how staff, especially those in leadership positions, treat others. Patients and visitors deserve a welcoming environment, and employees deserve respect. This situation was disappointing and, frankly, completely unacceptable.

Our overall experience with Dr. Xie, the neurology team, and my father’s visit was excellent! However, I do have one complaint. I brought my father here for an appointment on Wednesday, 2026/1/28, at 11 a.m. in the neurology department on the fourth floor. If you plan to use valet parking, I strongly recommend arriving 30–45 minutes early. The valet line was extremely long, and it took nearly 30 minutes to reach the building entrance. I do not know whether the cold weather was a factor, but the line was very long, and valet staff directed everyone around the block, creating severe traffic congestion. After my father and I went downstairs and paid for valet parking, it took another 20 minutes to retrieve my car. I strongly recommend parking in the garage yourself. I have accompanied my father here several times, and the valet service has never been this poor. It needs improvement or a better system. I learned my lesson and will park in the garage myself unless I see substantial improvements.

I absolutely do not recommend this hospital to anyone. It is the worst hospital I have ever encountered. My sister needed brain surgery to remove a cerebral hemorrhage. They said they had performed this common procedure many times. She underwent surgery the day after Thanksgiving 2025, arriving early that morning expecting everything to go well. After surgery, her condition deteriorated rapidly. She was initially conscious but then developed slurred speech and symptoms of a stroke. Her condition worsened until she could no longer breathe independently and required intubation, and she was ultimately declared brain-dead. On December 2, 2025, we had to remove her from life support. This was the worst experience of my life, and losing my sister has left me heartbroken. She was young and healthy. The doctors were extremely irresponsible. They allowed a resident to operate on my sister, and the surgery failed completely. We intend to sue this hospital, and I hope they never treat another family as they treated mine. We are devastated and desperate after losing our loved one. We despise this hospital and will do everything we can to hold them accountable for what happened to our beloved sister.

The two women at the outpatient surgery reception desk were extremely rude and mocked me. They made fun of my English pronunciation. My English is not good, and I was nervous, so it was difficult for me. Then they told me to sit down and continued laughing at me. I found their behavior very disrespectful and cruel. I do not think it was right because I always treat others with respect, and it even made me hesitate about having the procedure. Later, my sister took a video of a robot—I do not know whether that is prohibited; perhaps it is—and I think someone could quietly say, “Excuse me, you should not do that. Could you delete the photo or video?” Instead, she loudly scolded my sister. It felt personal…

The radiation therapy team's cold indifference was extremely helpful to the process.

Aside from the distance from the starting point, you provide too much information. The most important thing is route guidance, yet you do not provide enough of it. I will never use this app again. I give it zero points. 👎🏾

I have consistently had an excellent experience at this clinic. Dr. Mitchell and the other staff are professional and friendly and even made time to schedule an urgent appointment for me. They closely monitor my MyChart messages, call to confirm my requests were handled, and answer questions even without an appointment. Five stars.

The care was good, but there was one problem: an unexpectedly high bill. I came for an annual preventive exam but was not billed accordingly, and there was an additional facility fee. I called the clinic several times, and my insurance company was also unable to resolve the issue. I would not recommend them.

Dr. Mitchell is very nice, but he or his office used the wrong billing code, creating a nightmare with my insurer that remains unresolved. I have spent hours making 10 calls, and because this is a hospital, it is difficult to reach anyone who can help. My insurer also cannot reach the office. Ultimately, the office charged me $700 for something included in my annual routine exam because they used the wrong code. It should have cost only $30, as it did last year. This place has been completely unhelpful in resolving the problem. I will not return; it is not worth the headache, and I cannot afford the bill. Charging me $700 for their own mistake is very unethical when I requested exactly the same service as last year, which cost only $30. I do not recommend this place.

I do not understand why their directions are so poor. The entrance is on Canal Street, next to Panera Bread and across from Five Below. What a waste of time.

Dr. Barbosa's assistant treated me very poorly during my exam today, yet I heard him being extremely friendly and kind with a patient in the next room. Unbelievable. How are healthcare facilities hiring people these days?
21/12/2025
They spoke with me for only 5 minutes, performed no tests, and charged a large amount. I went for an ultrasound, but they said the technician was unavailable and told me to return later. I will not go back. It was a waste of time and money.

I received care here during both of my pregnancies. The obstetrics and gynecology team is highly capable and responsive. Sometimes there is a wait, so it is best to bring a book. I assume this is because the doctors are excellent and each patient's needs differ, so some visits take longer. Despite the wait, I never felt rushed during my appointments.
10/04/2026
This clinic is very professional, and the women at the front desk are friendly and courteous. My doctor is excellent, and I am glad to have him as my physician.

New patients, stay away from this clinic! I wish I had seen the other reviews about surprise bills before making an appointment. The exact same thing happened to me, and I feel obligated to warn others. What was supposed to be a routine visit, listed as costing 420 dollars, was later turned into an expensive comprehensive examination. They also insisted that it was not an error. Simply dealing with this clinic is enough to drive anyone to despair.
