Katherine Melzer-Ross, MD, is a fellowship-trained reproductive endocrinologist dedicated to helping families begin their path to parenthood. Since delivering her first baby as a medical student, she has known that caring for women was her passion. Since joining us in 2013, Dr. Melzer-Ross has brought that passion to her practice at Genesis Fertility. Her special interests include early embryo development, fertility preservation, and preimplantation genetic diagnosis. She is also a skilled hysteroscopic surgeon who treats fertility-affecting conditions such as uterine fibroids, polyps, and abnormalities.
Dr. Melzer-Ross grew up in Brooklyn and attended Stuyvesant High School. She earned an undergraduate degree in human biology from Stanford University, then worked for several years as a clinical cancer researcher in dermatology at NYU Langone Medical Center. She earned her medical degree with honors from the University at Buffalo and was inducted into Alpha Omega Alpha as a junior medical student. She completed her OB/GYN residency at Brown University/Women & Infants Hospital of Rhode Island, receiving several teaching awards, and completed subspecialty fellowship training in reproductive endocrinology and infertility at NYU Langone Medical Center.
Dr. Melzer-Ross is board-certified in both obstetrics and gynecology and reproductive endocrinology and infertility. She is an active member of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM). She has authored research papers in peer-reviewed journals and presented her work at many national conferences.

A terrible place for semen analysis. The room or bathroom provided for men is awful and uninspiring. The only sofa is dirty, and they merely cover it with thin paper instead of cleaning it.
The older woman who provides the container is rude. No one offers any assistance. There are no videos, books, or lubricant—just an empty, suffocating restroom with a sofa.

10/30 - Response to the reply to my original review
I want to clarify that, according to your team's instructions, the legal agreement was the final step in the process, after all required donor testing was approved. We also met the legal requirement by submitting a written letter stating that our legal documents were being processed, which was sufficient to begin.
Second, you claim insurance was not processed because of the legal agreement. Then why did your team prescribe medication for my donor and me? What was that medication for? The truth is that your team lacks teamwork and clear internal communication.
Paying $25 here is not the issue. I paid $2,000 for donor medication that is now sitting in your refrigerator. The issue is that your team did not provide the care and treatment I deserved, or that anyone coming to your clinic deserves. I do not want to relive those moments by writing or arguing here. My main purpose in writing is to warn others who may be considering consulting your team. This is my final post here. To clarify one last point, I received a call only after I complained and decided not to return to your clinic. The time to begin treatment had already passed.
Original review - If you are looking for a fertility clinic, I want to share my experience to help you avoid additional stress. Please do not go to Genesis Fertility in Brooklyn.
I first consulted Dr. Chiware around April/May 2024 about a donor IVF cycle. The team did not communicate clearly, and it was difficult to get updates on the treatment plan. My coordinator, Jennifer, was the only contact who tried to help, but she did not know the status of my clinical care. My nurse practitioner, Temima, was frequently out of the office, and even when I included her in emails, I received no response.
After months of waiting and struggling, including repeating some tests because of communication gaps, we finally completed all prerequisites in October, but still had no clear start date or treatment plan. I emailed frequently without receiving a response. Eventually, I had to request an appointment with the doctor to discuss treatment. Remember, this was a donor cycle, so my donor had to fly here and coordinate time off work. After that meeting, we finally set a start date, but it was only days away, leaving me scrambling to book my donor's flight.
I still tried to remain hopeful. But I completely lost hope when I called my insurance company about medication authorization and learned that the clinic had never submitted a request for IVF coverage. I felt frustrated and devastated. After all those months, it was now October and they had not even checked my insurance, usually the first step at any clinic. I contacted the clinic manager and left a voicemail but received no response. When I contacted nursing, they blamed billing, while billing, represented by Dana, blamed the clinical team. She even suggested I pay for the medication out of pocket because it was not that expensive.
I wasted money, including $2,000 on nonrefundable donor medication. The clinic also wasted my time and energy. In summary, the donor team at Genesis Fertility is disorganized and lacks teamwork; no one seems to know what anyone else is doing. I do not usually write reviews, but I felt it was necessary to share my experience so others can avoid the difficulties I faced.

I am still a patient at Genesis, but my experience has been wonderful so far! Nurse Jessica, Giuseppe, Dr. Amin, and all other staff I have met have treated me very well. They are kind, attentive, patient, and supportive and always ensure I have a positive, smooth experience. This review is unrelated to the outcome. Everyone's situation is unique, and it would be unfair to write a review simply because we did not get the favorable result we wanted. That said, we did not research different fertility clinics enough. We were referred to Genesis, and it was nearby, so it seemed convenient. The office was nice enough, and having the pharmacy in the same building was helpful. Our doctor was very kind and personable. Now the bad: 1.) As other reviews here and on Yelp mention, they seem focused on billing as much as possible. For example, they charged/prescribed medications we ultimately did not take. They also “precharged” us for a test, but we did not receive one important test, though we got the money back. They double-charged us too, which we learned only by contacting our insurer, who rejected the claim. I do not know why billing did this, but carefully review every receipt. 2.) Without sharing too much detail, on retrieval day we knew something was wrong, and after surgery it was clear something was wrong. Worst of all, no one adequately explained how or why it happened, despite my efforts to get a reasonable answer. It seemed they did not want to accept responsibility, although it turned out partly to be their fault. 3.) After that, the doctor recommended surgery, which seemed extreme after 1 cycle, so we sought a second opinion.
We went to another well-known clinic in central Bangkok, and the experience was night and day. We were upset with ourselves for not comparing more clinics and options before committing. From day one, it was better. We sat with the doctor, shared all ongoing tests, and had an ultrasound. Before we finished explaining, he essentially told us what had gone wrong. He then explained what he would do differently and provided a full roadmap of options, with surgery as the final option. A coordinator then explained everything in greater detail, followed by a financial counselor who explained all costs. It was a completely different, more personal experience, better suited to someone undergoing IVF. Genesis felt generic and procedural. This is not entirely the doctor's fault; it is how they operate, and even the nursing experience was entirely different. Be sure to compare clinics, have several consultations, understand the finances, and choose the clinic best suited to you and your family. IVF is expensive, whether insurance covers most of it or none, and you want the best experience and outcome. *Update since I first wrote this:* Our Genesis doctor initially said we would essentially get no follicles from one ovary because my wife had endometriosis on it and recommended surgery to remove the endometriosis. Today, we have several follicles on the ovary with endometriosis. We are glad we went elsewhere.

I was a patient of Dr. Chiware for over a year, and I cannot say enough good things about Genesis. My procedures were performed by Dr. Amin and Dr. Kotlyar. Although I was Dr. Chiware's patient, they treated me like one of their own. Jessica, Gail, and Michelle continually supported and encouraged me. After five egg retrievals, I received the support I needed. They helped me never lose hope. The nurses answered every question I asked, always on the same day. Especially after the Fertilane app was introduced, I always felt informed and in control of my plan's progress. Dr. Chiware listened carefully to my concerns and ensured we achieved a positive outcome. I highly recommend Genesis to anyone struggling with infertility.

Stay away! Do your due diligence before deciding. 1. They repeatedly bill insurance. 2. Dr. Grazi conducted our consultation from his car without any details in front of him. 3. Two IUIs failed, wasting time and money with no explanation. One IVF cycle also failed without explanation, and we were simply told to try again without being told what to do differently. 4. The doctor kept blaming male-factor infertility, but another clinic clearly showed that was not the case because we achieved a positive result with the first transfer of our first IVF cycle. 5. They sent embryos for PGA testing but could not determine whether they sent 3 or 4.
Before proceeding, do yourself a favor and review the SART statistics. Treatment is expensive and, more importantly, emotionally draining, especially if you choose a facility that cannot provide every patient with the care they deserve.

I am very grateful to Genesis Fertility, especially Dr. Grazi, Dr. Ross, Natalie, Irina, Nellie, Marina, Jessica, and others. Thank you. This was my third IVF cycle, although not my first at this clinic. My first and second cycles were in Turkey. The first succeeded, but somehow I miscarried at 22 weeks. Genesis Fertility has its own rules. One issue is that no one proactively asks about your health. Whenever you call, the nurses assess the situation, and of course they are experienced.

I feel my last transfer I was not monitored closely enought to monitor my progesterone. I was taking progesterone through an injection ans suppository and after transfer the did not have me come back once to determine if my levels were increasing until I did the pregnancy blood test .

If you want to add unnecessary complications and severe emotional distress to your already difficult situation, you have come to the right place!
IVF is not guaranteed to work. We knew that and accepted the risk, but this clinic made too many mistakes in my case for me to accept.
I tried them twice because the location was convenient!
They clearly prescribed too little medication, and I had to work extremely hard and pay additional costs out of pocket to correct it.
There was no communication after the egg retrieval, as if I were merely something in a laboratory with no right to know my results. This was both unprofessional and disrespectful.
Despicable practices.

I cannot say enough about the attentive care and communication I received at Genesis (Bay Parkway) last year. Dr. Kotlyar, Jessica, Michelle, Kayla, Brittney, Nelly, and the entire nursing staff were kind, encouraging, and patient. Dr. Kotlyar never gave up on me or sugarcoated anything. I am deeply grateful and cannot wait to meet my baby this December.

This was absolutely one of my worst healthcare experiences—not because of the doctor, but because of the clinic staff and nurses. Their lack of communication and professionalism is unacceptable, especially when treatment is time-sensitive. The nurses and staff were also rude on the phone, making the situation even more frustrating. I called and left messages repeatedly but never received a response. Once, I arrived for a scheduled appointment only to find the clinic closed, and now it has happened again. With unanswered calls, rude behavior, and the clinic closed during appointment hours, I do not want to waste any more time. Avoid this clinic if you can.

I was very disappointed with this experience. They seemed more concerned with billing than with patients. Communication was extremely slow, especially after the stone retrieval—it took at least two business days to hear back from the doctor. After the treatment failed, I had to follow up repeatedly for several days. No one clearly explained the next steps, and I felt completely unsupported. There was no easy way to ask nonurgent questions other than calling and being transferred multiple times. I expected more care and guidance throughout the process. I will choose another clinic for my next treatment.

Where do I began! Dr. Grazi is so compassionate, genuine, and has a good heart. I have been his patient for over 4 years. I never felt like a number. Jessica who would draw my blood would always give me words of encouragement. Everything is patience and I knew that I could not rush the process. From the front desk, to the labs ladies, and nurses are so amazing. One of the ladies on the 6 floor cried with me and everyone rejoiced with me when my first pregnancy was confirmed. I had 2 failed cycles and when I looked at Dr. Grazi I saw how he felt so bad for me but quickly gave me reassurance. We had came up with different plans and he would ask me what I thought of them. It’s not easy to find a doctor with such compassion. By the grace of God, the 3rd cycle was successful. When we had our final meeting he looked at me and said, “ thank you for getting pregnant “. When it was God and him who did it all. I just want to say, thank you for doing God’s work, changing lives, bringing joy to families like me, and loving what you do. Thank you to all the ladies in the office!

I would not recommend this practice because they used defective culture media for donor eggs and embryos, causing embryos and eggs to die. A large lawsuit is now underway because many patients, including my wife, experienced the same problem. Because of this practice's negligence, we lost more than 20 eggs and embryos. We cannot even sue because our procedure was only days outside the dates covered by the lawsuit—how convenient. We may have lost several children because of their negligence. Their response claims they take culture media seriously and have strict quality controls, yet there are now large lawsuits involving many people over their use of defective media that prevented eggs and embryos from fertilizing. Scammers! Yet they never forget to demand payment before providing services. I would leave immediately for a more reputable reproductive center and research any past or current lawsuits first. Our mistake was doing business with them without investigating beforehand.

This clinic only cares about money. The front desk is rude and almost impossible to reach. I had three failed IUIs, but they never changed the treatment plan. They only look for ways to collect money from insurance and take no responsibility. I strongly do not recommend this clinic.

This clinic is highly unprofessional and irresponsible. If you have substantial financial resources and do not mind being unfairly charged, you might consider it.
Although we stopped IUI treatment here in February, they continue sending emails demanding sperm storage fees. We transferred to another clinic two months ago.
We called repeatedly to cancel storage, but no one answered. On the rare occasions someone did, they hung up without helping.
Meanwhile, the payment demands continue, which is completely unacceptable.
Both the front desk and nurses are difficult to reach by phone. Their lack of communication and accountability is deeply disappointing.
We clearly requested cancellation of sperm storage, but they ignored us.

We scheduled an appointment and waited a month and a half. We then received a call postponing it by another month. A few days before the new date, they told us they did not accept our insurance—even though we had specifically asked before scheduling.

My greatest disappointment was that Dr. Grazi retired without notifying patients in advance. Communication and continuity of care are essential during a fertility journey, so I expected some advance notice or transition plan.
Even so, the entire Genesis staff was extremely helpful throughout the process. Gail in particular was outstanding. She is compassionate, professional, dedicated, and passionate about her work. She understands how to communicate with patients during such an emotionally complex time, and I sincerely hope Pinnacle Fertility keeps Gail on staff.

I tried intrauterine insemination (IUI) three times, and each procedure was painful. The nurses gave me strange feedback and conflicting information about when and how to take certain hormones. I underwent a hysterosalpingogram (HSG), which was very painful, but they failed to obtain an image. The doctor told me I did not need to repeat it and could proceed directly with IUI. I later transferred to a fertility clinic in New York with much better reviews. There, I was told my anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) level was too low for IUI to be very effective. I had another HSG with a doctor recommended by the new clinic, and the experience was completely different—and the test was very necessary. Later that year, I conceived naturally.

This clinic is a nightmare! They care only about money—even trying every possible way to defraud insurance—and are extremely irresponsible. The front desk never answers the phone, and getting help is nearly impossible. Emails go unanswered, and calls are disconnected. We stopped treatment months ago, yet they are still demanding payment. Avoid this clinic so you do not face the same problems! I strongly advise against it!!!!

I have been to several fertility clinics, and this is definitely the best of them! Overall, they are good and keep us updated on progress, but I deducted one star because the nurses and doctors often provide inconsistent information, which is very frustrating. Morning testing also always involves a long wait that seems completely unnecessary. The staff drawing blood and performing ultrasounds always seem to move very slowly. Overall, however, this is the best of the three clinics I have visited. They are clearly the most professional and do their best to keep us informed. They also return calls within a reasonable time.

My experience here was terrible. I had three intrauterine insemination (IUI) cycles, and all of them failed. There was no explanation. I was very anxious from the beginning, but they simply brushed it off by saying, “Everyone is scared at first; you will get over it.” I felt like just a number. After the third IUI, a nurse suggested that I contact my doctor to schedule a consultation about more aggressive treatment options. The doctor never once reached out to ask how I was feeling during the three IUI cycles. Am I supposed to chase down the doctor myself? Ridiculous.
At 5:45 a.m., I went to their Staten Island clinic for a blood draw, but no one was there. Another patient and I waited outside, and we both tried calling them, but no one answered and no one came to the clinic. I waited 30 minutes.
I changed doctors, and the new doctor's level of service far exceeded my expectations. Seeing the care provided by the new clinic made me even more disappointed with Genesis.
Genesis, you need to improve your service. Infertility is difficult enough, and treatment is also expensive. Patient support should be your top priority.
I would also like to add that after I posted this review, a nurse called and asked me to delete it, as though I were reviewing a pair of shoes. Absolutely disgusting.

I never write reviews, but I had to write one for Genesis because I am so grateful to the Genesis team! Our fertility journey was full of challenges. The Genesis team was always patient, kind, and, most importantly, knowledgeable. Dr. Melzer Ross worked with us for over a year and helped us create a fertility plan. She gave us the information we needed to make the decisions that were right for us. The most important things Dr. Ross gave us were hope and confidence, enabling us to face what can be a very difficult journey. Ultimately, thanks to her expertise, we became pregnant after years of trying. She truly changed our lives. Genesis not only has excellent doctors but also nurses available around the clock—literally 24 hours—and members of the monitoring team who see patients early each morning and encouraged us when we most needed to stay positive. Even the front desk staff greet every patient with a bright smile at 6:45 every morning. I am sincerely grateful to everyone at Genesis.

I spent several days thinking about how to write an objective, impartial review based only on the facts. For anyone trying to become pregnant, this is undoubtedly an emotional journey, so let us set aside treatment outcomes, whether good or bad, because those are entirely personal experiences. I understand why other reviews say this clinic only cares about billing—patients do not feel that they receive the care they deserve.
I can say with certainty that this organization lacks communication with its patients. Imagine my shock when I learned that my original doctor, Dr. Grazi, had retired and sold the clinic! I did not hear this from Dr. Grazi; a nurse told me. How can they treat patients this way? Perhaps Dr. Grazi only decided to leave after everything had been finalized, but should the new clinic owners not have contacted existing patients to inform them of the change? Who would the new doctor be? Or would patients be consulted when selecting a new doctor?
Another reason I am criticizing the lack of communication involves sensitive information that needs to be discussed with patients. Why does Genesis think it is appropriate for a nurse to relay a doctor's message to a patient over the phone? Does the doctor on call not have the courtesy to call the patient personally? Of course, inviting the patient to the clinic for an in-person discussion would be even better, but we also need to be realistic and understand that not everyone can drop what they are doing and return to the clinic later that day. That is understandable, but I cannot understand the doctors' lack of professionalism and communication with patients.
However, I must acknowledge that the Genesis front desk staff are always professional, warm, and friendly on weekdays. I have had no unpleasant experiences with them. The core nursing team I met—Jessica, Maria, and Christina—is absolutely the best. If I continue fertility treatment at Genesis, I sincerely hope this excellent team remains there.

Highly recommended!! My fertility journey began at another clinic, Kofinas. Although its office was more luxurious than Genesis, the experience at Genesis suited me better.
The main reasons I was satisfied with Genesis were:
- Dr. Katherine Melzer Ross is direct, and I appreciated her honesty throughout the process.
- They wanted to ensure that I completed all necessary tests before treatment, but they were also eager to begin treatment as soon as possible instead of continually ordering tests and procedures.
- They started me with the least invasive treatment option and developed a plan B for us to consider if it did not work.
- I had monitoring appointments every other day, and they always called later the same day with my results. Excellent communication!
- Wonderful nurses. I have medical anxiety, and when I needed blood draws and ultrasounds every other day, the nurses were always very kind.

Please do not go to the Queens location. They cannot draw blood properly, which left scar tissue on my good veins. When blood must be drawn every two days for weeks or months, someone unable to do it effectively can make the experience painful. Gina could draw from only one vein, and when others saw my bruised, dark vein, they said, ‘Let's give it a rest.’ Staff in Brooklyn told me many patients have similar complaints about Queens. Unfortunately, repeated needle sticks without regard for patient comfort appear to be standard practice there.
During one incident, I was stuck five times, including in my hand, and had to refuse when Gina attempted a sixth time. When I told the doctor, she initially dismissed it, saying, ‘Well, that happens to some people.’ When I emphasized the five attempts, Dr. Chiware reluctantly acknowledged, ‘Well, no, that is a lot.’ I sent photos, but nothing happened. Gina often made excuses, such as claiming I had not drunk enough water or eaten, to justify her inability to draw blood. Today I was stuck three times, and Gina wanted a fourth attempt. When I refused, she asked, ‘Where do you want me to go?’ as though that solved the problem. This is completely unacceptable.
I have since changed fertility clinics, where rotating staff draw my blood successfully on the first attempt without excuses. Every staff member has done it without difficulty. Do not let Genesis convince you that your veins are the problem or that this experience is normal, especially if you have never had such serious issues before. The problem is their phlebotomists, who refuse to take responsibility. Consider the significant pain of repeated abdominal and back injections during treatment, combined with repeated needle sticks for blood draws every 2 days. It is not worth it; start somewhere good.

This place is terrible. Do not go. They do not explain insurance coverage at all, and then a pile of unexpected bills arrives at your home. They collect a laboratory copay, but I later learned it was only for the blood draw.

Beginning our fertility journey was a worrying experience, and at one point I wondered how to choose a clinic where I would feel safe, cared for, and comfortable. We are so glad we found Genesis in Hewlett. From day one, the staff made a positive impression. Working with Dr. Kotlyer was a pleasure. He is extremely knowledgeable and always conveys that knowledge in a comforting and caring way. He takes time to explain everything clearly—when he asks whether you have questions, it is not a formality; he genuinely wants to know whether anything needs further explanation so you can feel more at ease. My husband and I never hesitated because we worried a question might sound foolish. As for the rest of the staff, words cannot express how exceptional Gina is. Frequent blood tests and ultrasounds genuinely frightened me. I shed many tears, both at home and in the office, but this always felt like a safe place. Making something initially so frightening become routine and comfortable is no small accomplishment, and that is all thanks to Gina. This journey requires more than a doctor; it requires a team, and we are very fortunate that Gina was part of ours!

I have been a patient at Genesis Fertility since 2023. I travel to the Staten Island satellite location at 5 a.m. on weekdays for bloodwork and ultrasounds. Christina always arrives on time and is ready to greet everyone with a smile. She is highly skilled at blood draws and ultrasounds. She is knowledgeable and informative about the IUI/IVF process. Dr. Ross was very responsive and direct, guiding us step by step throughout our year and a half of treatment (IUI + IVF). She always gave us excellent advice when we encountered difficulties and maintained close communication from consultation through egg retrieval, transfer, and post-transfer care. She was not afraid to change the protocol for a new cycle and was willing to perform tests such as an ERA cycle that might not be offered elsewhere. I always felt truly heard and that my concerns were taken seriously. If you are considering IUI/IVF, I highly recommend Dr. Ross.

After extensive research into fertility clinics in New York City, I found Genesis and am so glad I did. I was 39 and received treatment from Dr. Ross at the Park Slope office. She was very candid from the start, and what I appreciated most was her ability to communicate in a way that worked for me. Everyone experiences this process differently, and in my view, finding a doctor who neither minimizes concerns nor avoids being direct is essential. Our second intrauterine insemination (IUI) was successful, and a few weeks ago I gave birth to a healthy baby girl at age 40. I must also praise the nurses and the entire Genesis staff. They played an important role in the process, and I will always be grateful for their knowledge, patience, and communication. I highly recommend this clinic!
