Dr. Sundaram is a Georgia native and is fluent in Tamil. She grew up in Marietta, Georgia, and earned her undergraduate degree in biomedical engineering from Georgia Tech. She deferred medical school to teach math and science at Carver High School in Atlanta through the prestigious Teach for America program. She earned her medical degree and completed her OB/GYN residency at the Medical College of Georgia. She then moved across the country to complete her fellowship at the renowned University of California, San Francisco.
After fellowship, Dr. Sundaram joined the faculty at Kaiser Permanente in San Francisco, where she helped establish a new IVF center. She also served as director of the core curriculum in reproductive endocrinology and infertility, working to empower the next generation of obstetricians and gynecologists. She has contributed to the Transhealth medical textbook, presented research at numerous national conferences, and continues to publish in respected peer-reviewed journals. She has delivered multiple grand rounds presentations at Kaiser Permanente and was invited to give an online FertilityIQ lecture on the nuances of fertility care for South Asian patients.
Dr. Sundaram is a passionate advocate for the rights of minorities living outside societal norms, whether related to race, gender, or socioeconomic status. She strongly believes that everyone should be able to have the family they want. Through the national advocacy organization Resolve, she has advocated in Washington, D.C., for legislation requiring insurance coverage of infertility care.
She recently decided to move across the country back to the South to be closer to family. Outside of work, Dr. Sundaram enjoys traveling and exploring with her husband and two sons, running with her beautiful husky Yoshi, reading, painting, dancing, and watching almost everything on Netflix.
