Dr. Peterson is a reproductive endocrinologist and infertility specialist at Coastal Fertility Specialists and joined the practice in fall 2023.

 

A South Carolina native, Dr. Peterson grew up in Columbia and attended the Honors College at the College of Charleston. She earned her medical degree from the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), where her peers elected her to the Gold Humanism Honor Society for compassionate patient care. She also earned a Master of Science in Clinical Research at MUSC. She completed her OB/GYN residency at UT Southwestern/Parkland Hospital in Dallas, Texas, one of the country's most respected programs. She then completed a three-year fellowship in reproductive endocrinology and infertility at Albert Einstein College of Medicine/Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx, New York.

 

She is board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology and board-eligible in reproductive endocrinology and infertility. She is also a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (FACOG) and an active member of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) and Society for Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (SREI).

 

Dr. Peterson's research on healthcare disparities and the effects of language preference on intrauterine insemination outcomes was published in the leading fertility journal Fertility and Sterility. She has a special interest in language because she speaks Spanish and is of Puerto Rican heritage. Her research using Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology (SART) national registry data to examine the effect of body mass index (BMI) on live birth rates after frozen-thawed euploid embryo transfer has been submitted to Fertility and Sterility. Dr. Peterson has presented at the annual meetings of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) and American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG).

 

Dr. Peterson has personally experienced infertility. Her son Leif was conceived through in vitro fertilization at Coastal Reproductive Specialists. Becoming a mother gave her a new perspective on the impact of her work on people's lives. She is passionate about helping patients grow their families and experience the joy of parenthood. She lives on Daniel Island with her husband Lee, their son, and 2 golden retrievers, Rex and Mamba. In her free time, she enjoys travel, family time, staying active, tennis, and walking.

A year ago, we had a terrible IUI experience at another clinic, so I felt I should leave a positive review here. Alonna at the Lexington office is truly exceptional. I am undergoing my first IVF cycle and will have my egg retrieval tomorrow at the Mt Pleasant office. With Alonna guiding and supporting me and answering my questions, I have not felt alone. I felt intimidated when my medications arrived at home, but she guided me through everything. I must also recognize Dr. R. I have met her only twice, but she has given me tremendous hope during this process. I am extremely grateful that you are both part of the infertility field. You truly are a gift from God to my husband and me, and I do not say that lightly. I am crying as I write this. You have exceeded our expectations, and I feel supported by you. I look forward to what comes next.

My husband and I are extremely pleased with our IVF experience at Coastal. The nurses, staff, and every doctor we saw during this journey exceeded our expectations. Our doctor was Dr. McLaughlin, and she is an angel to our little family. I cannot imagine visiting any other clinic. 5/5 stars, but I would give her 10 out of 10! We underwent IVF, and I am now 7 weeks and 5 days pregnant after our first frozen embryo transfer. We have graduated from Coastal's care and will miss them very much! We will undoubtedly return when we try for baby #2 ❤️

My husband and I went to Coastal Fertility without knowing what to expect or how much longer it would take to have a child. We had completed 4 letrozole cycles when Coastal's kind team took time to listen to my story, concerns, and wishes. We are delighted and fortunate to say that after one medicated IUI cycle, we miraculously became pregnant! Every staff member we encountered was a gift from God, from the front-desk receptionists to the doctors and nurses who drew my blood. Thank you to Mindy, the virtual nurse, who answered every question and gave me tremendous encouragement. Our prayers were answered, and I am so glad we took the step of visiting Coastal Fertility!

The worst fertility medical center ever. Do not waste your time and money here. They think only about money and nothing else. You almost never see a doctor and deal only with nurses online. They are not helpful at all. Whenever you need them, they are unable or unwilling to help.

Everyone is knowledgeable and helpful! There is never a wait at the clinic, and they are thorough, attentive, and with you throughout the process! My husband and I are very satisfied with the experience. Thanks to this clinic and Dr. Schnorr, after multiple miscarriages we are finally 8.5 weeks pregnant.

This clinic has serious problems with scheduling, communication, and staff professionalism. Patients are charged before receiving treatment, and appointments are extremely difficult to schedule. Staff speak arrogantly and rudely and even question whether a message was left despite call records that can verify it. These issues undermine patient dignity and make care unnecessarily difficult. The clinic must address them to ensure that all patients receive professional, respectful, and efficient treatment. **Update after receiving the business's response** I would like to clarify: I was never scheduled for an appointment but was charged a 'deposit,' which I only just discovered on my credit card. Their receptionist explained that the system would not let us schedule because of an outstanding balance, so what exactly was that balance? This was not a deposit. It was a charge made without a confirmed service date, which is why I felt misled from the beginning. Even more confusing, the charge came through the Mount Pleasant office, which I have never visited. It is 2.15 hours from us, and we never authorized a charge through that location. When a fertility clinic is this careless with important matters such as billing, scheduling, and basic communication, it naturally raises concerns about how it manages more critical medical care. Fertility patients deserve clarity, transparency, and respect, not circular answers, confusion about locations, and explanations after the fact. At minimum, this situation warrants an internal review so future patients do not experience the same difficulties.

First, we are expecting our first baby in May 2026, thanks to Coastal Fertility Specialists. Thank you for helping make our dream come true! ♡ Our primary doctor was Dr. Andrea Peterson, and we loved her. She is approachable and very kind. We liked her from our first meeting in December 2024, though we did not see her often afterward, which was not the clinic's fault; sometimes that is simply how things work. Dr. Peterson performed our third intrauterine insemination (IUI), and it was successful! It was wonderful that she brought our fertility journey to such a happy conclusion. Because we are from Georgia, we visited the Lexington office less often than the Savannah office. When we went to Lexington, it was usually on Saturdays, and we greatly appreciated CFS's flexible hours. Our nurse A'Lonna usually saw us on Saturdays. She was wonderful and always responded promptly to my calls, voicemails, and emails. A'Lonna also offered exactly the right encouragement when things seemed hopeless. We were very fortunate to have her as our nurse! If we need help growing our family again, we will definitely choose her. Thank you again, CFS! ♡

This was probably one of the worst medical experiences I have ever had. I found the staff very negative and cold. I did not like the examination or the way the doctor spoke to me. My surgeon referred me there for a second opinion, and the entire experience was extremely upsetting. Update (after the owner's comment): Just look at their response. Beware! This is a perfect example of their attitude and behavior.

I love Coastal Fertility!! The team is very kind and helpful. I would recommend this clinic to everyone. Whatever questions I had, they always answered immediately! I was a little sad to graduate from the clinic because they felt like family!! After I became pregnant through IVF, they always asked for baby photos and updates! 🩷

Terrible experience. I am a physician, so I know how a clinic should operate. This clinic is extremely poorly run. We had blood samples collected but did not receive the results for weeks. It was impossible to reach anyone; staff just transferred our calls from person to person, and no one actually helped resolve the issue. After weeks of trying to reach the Lexington office, I finally spoke with someone at the Mount Pleasant office who helped me. I completed an authorization to release information, but it still took another 10 days to receive the lab results. This is completely unacceptable.

These people were absolutely awful throughout the process. Not only did they treat my wife poorly, but they continued billing us after we transferred to another clinic, communicated extremely poorly, and more. This process is already difficult enough, and having to deal with these people made it even worse.

Update - We fulfilled our financial obligations but are still waiting for the practice to send the paperwork needed to complete the oocyte disposal. I have always believed you can speak to people instead of the internet, but this practice does not seem to value that. Instead of posting a snarky Google response, why not have the clinical team call? That would be the professional way to handle a clinical issue. Five years ago, I paid to retrieve and freeze eggs, then became pregnant naturally early last year. I messaged the clinical team to ask what could or should be done with the remaining oocytes and specifically stated that our family was complete and we did not want to keep paying storage fees. Not only did no one from the clinical team respond... they also sent us to collections for unpaid oocyte storage fees. We were willing to donate them to another couple in need or to research, but received no message or callback from the clinical team, making it clear that money comes first. I was told billing and clinical staff cannot access the same information, so buyer beware—document everything in writing, especially if you speak to someone by phone rather than through the portal. If you need Coastal Fertility, I hope you find success and a happy ending. I also hope that happy ending does not end with being sent to collections...

Excellent care and medical staff. They know what they are doing, and their process works. The financial side, especially if you have insurance, is a nightmare. We had to constantly follow up and mediate between insurance and Coastal ourselves. Even with itemized statements, the bills never seemed clear or accurate, and we may have saved money by paying out of pocket.

Our nurse Alex was a lifesaver throughout the process—answering countless questions and providing excellent support whenever we needed it. After a terrible experience at Coastal, I chose another clinic. I underwent IUI in November 2023 and encountered several challenges. Treatment is emotionally difficult enough, but the male doctor on duty the day of my procedure treated me so poorly that I was shocked. Surprisingly, he is actually Coastal's founder. The laboratory made an error and then prolonged the process. The count was inadequate, but instead of using the sample for one attempt as I explicitly requested, they tried to stretch it across cycles by dividing it. They did not thaw enough and kept more frozen. Dr. Schnorr told me I could try IVF. I was not ready for IVF at the time, was emotional, and was questioning whether it was feasible. He rudely interrupted me, told me "not to interrupt" him, and said I could "get a part-time job at Tractor Supply or Starbucks." This is terrible treatment of a woman on this journey. As a professional who claims to be committed to "high-quality patient care," he should know better. Part of a reproductive endocrinologist's job is to show compassion because this journey is emotionally exhausting. If you do not recognize the power imbalance in this position or lack empathy, perhaps you should step away from the work. I remained professional at the clinic but wish someone had corrected the doctor while I was so vulnerable. Dr. Riestenberg identified errors by Schnorr and the laboratory, and I returned to the clinic that day to partially correct the situation. Although their response to my initial review denied any error, I had told them to use the remaining sample for one IUI rather than multiple IUIs with inadequate counts. I returned later that day for them to use the remaining sample because they did make an error or failed to follow my request, which they never clearly raised with me. Dr. Riestenberg was kind, thoughtful, and compassionate about what I had experienced. I could not return to this clinic for further treatment knowing I might have to interact with Dr. Schnorr again, especially since I never received an apology. My trust in Coastal was broken. At PREG, another fertility clinic near Summerville, I received excellent patient-centered care with very good results. Anyone considering Coastal should remember that when they make a mistake, you may need someone beside you to help advocate for you—or hear them make an excuse. The response I received to this review included the owner questioning the error. If it was not an error, I would not have needed to return the same day to correct the "non-error."

Update: I just noticed the practice's response after being publicly criticized, and I am grateful I trusted my instincts. I never said the owner was part of my experience, so I do not know why you responded that way. I wrote this review to help people avoid a terrible situation. Your response certainly disclosed too much information about my health to the public. My innocent question about whether your office had IVF stimulation medications I could purchase, because I did not realize how many of the many IVF medications I lacked, was unrelated to my review. I asked after someone suggested it, purely out of desperation to achieve my dream of becoming a mother, before I realized how callous this practice was. You only needed to say you could not, and that would have been fine. Publicly opening that door violates HIPAA. It is also nothing I am ashamed of; it happened before I realized how aggressive your practice was. I work in healthcare, and any disagreement with you would not receive support. I do not need to disparage you at this point; your company is doing that itself. Your practice has caused more pain than I imagined, yet you accept no responsibility. I did speak with finance, but we made no progress. I said I liked the people who worked with us, Dr. Cook and Becky. No, my dose was not lowered at the beginning of the third IUI; it was reduced slightly after we saw all the follicles. Also, do not share my personal information. I can say what I want; you cannot rewrite the narrative, and you were wrong. I should also mention that while my blood was being drawn, a nurse was vaping in the blood-draw area, which was obviously a strange experience. There are not two sides to this story. I am happy to share anything. Anyone considering Coastal should stay away. My original post: "We liked Dr. Cook and our nurse, but this was not a good experience. I was given too much medication, according to two different fertility doctors. We begged them after every visit to tell us the cost so there would be no more surprises during such a vulnerable time, but no one could do that. The woman at checkout told us they accepted our insurance and then said they did not. We spent about 10k on medication and other costs for three IUI attempts, but had to stop the third midway because too many follicles developed. This also happened during my second IUI, when they had to perform a painful aspiration that also cost money. Yet they kept me on the same Gonal dose, and Gonal is expensive. My friend's experience with the male doctor was worse. When we switched facilities, the dose was reduced and they had us watch modules so we understood every step. There was a refund plan if it did not work. Many friends and friends of friends ask where I went because I share my story publicly, and I am grateful I found such a great facility. I almost completed IVF for roughly the same price as all my IUIs—I wish I had researched more. Another point: I heard the male doctor at Coastal can be a bully, and I noticed that when people write informed reviews to help others, he or someone else at Coastal responds aggressively. That says everything. PREG was wonderful and always available. This was simply my experience."

My husband and I had a very positive experience at Coastal Fertility. We are extremely grateful to all the nurses and doctors involved in our IVF journey. Dr. McLaughlin is knowledgeable, approachable, and helpful. Heather Clayton is very compassionate and always made me feel genuinely cared for; I cannot say enough good things about her. I was also deeply impressed by how caring the recovery-room nurses were after both my egg retrievals. We are so grateful to Coastal Fertility for helping us grow our family after years of infertility, and we look forward to returning for our second baby.

We had a wonderful experience at Coastal Fertility! We visited the Savannah and Mount Pleasant offices, and everyone was excellent! Words cannot express our gratitude to Dr. Schnorr, nurse Hannah, nurse Paige, and the entire Coastal Fertility team. This March, we finally succeeded through IVF and welcomed a healthy, beautiful baby boy. They genuinely cared about us and never gave up after our countless attempts and failures with infertility. I spent two years with them, and despite many hardships, this was still the best experience I have ever had with any medical facility or team. Before moving here, we attended another fertility clinic in another state, so I can compare the experiences. Coastal Fertility is truly unique, and I highly recommend it to anyone seeking fertility care. We look forward to returning one day to grow our family. Forever grateful!

Avoid this clinic at all costs. They treat you like a number at a deli counter—with no compassion or humanity. The doctors and nurses have the worst attitudes I have ever encountered in healthcare: rude, aggressive, and insulting. There are many other options nearby, and I strongly suggest trying them before considering this terrible clinic. Do not waste your time, money, or energy here. Go ahead and comment, reply, or even add a fake five-star review, Dr. S and staff. This clinic is a joke, and I cannot wait to see it face more lawsuits. I will not call Isabell again.

We had a wonderful experience with Dr. McLaughlin, Katrina, and the Coastal Fertility team, including the Myrtle Beach office. The journey was not always easy, but they consistently made us feel cared for and supported. Dr. McLaughlin took time to explain everything in clear language and put us at ease, while Katrina was very kind and encouraging throughout. They always made the process feel a little easier, and their support reassured us along the way. We are very grateful for their care and the role they played throughout our journey.

First I wish could be a zero stars. As both medical professionals, my husband and I were floored by the disorganization; the unprofessionalism; and down right rudeness by this facility and when we encountered Dr. Schnorr. The long list of issues we encountered from our personal request to save half our eggs to an egg retrieval hell leaving us in shock. Our embryos are now in safe hands in another facility and we’re pregnant after one transfer thanks to this other facility, a provider who listens, and they didn’t risk my life like coastal fertility did with sheer neglect of me as a patient. This is an area of medicine that is not cookie cutter and every patient is an individual and should be treated as such not made to be a number and hearded like cattle. The other location listened and followed my natural cycle, as my tubes were removed couple years ago, but coastal demanded I pay for large hormones and take high estrogen despite numerous times I questioned it which led to chest pains, blurred vision, gaining of 20 lbs, and in just 3 days on high estrogen ( which I begged not to be on due to history of blood clot risk and family hx of my mother with brain aneurysms) platelets shot up to 456 from normal 288 which my own pcp ordered due to being worried. The new place was PREG which is truly a blessing and VERY ORGANIZED and has been nothing short of amazing which I cannot say about coastal fertility who was a nightmare. Coastal billed insurance under a provider who was on maternity leave for services (Carrie Reistenberg which is proof on my IOB forms for services End of October 2024 and November 2024 following her exit middle of October 2024) that occurred after she had left, never gave me direction and only one calling me back on care was a nurse ,Lauren, who was rude and neglected to document properly on our wishes which led to a bad egg retrieval where half was to be frozen and half inseminated but they inseminated all Of them. When questioned why nothing was properly documented the owner rudely stated “we do allow our providers to go on maternity leave.” Which I understand but as a provider myself you don’t give new incoming cases to an outgoing provider and leave them without proper care and direction of their care. They tried to neglect our wishes and tried to push us off until the provider came back off maternity leave for a transfer. Not once did I sign paperwork to have all my eggs inseminated leading to too many embryos than we anticipated for which we also could have donated my remaining eggs to someone in need or even my sister whom used to be a patient. The nurse even accessed her chart without proper written authorization from her during our conversation about my sister who was to receive these extra saved eggs. As we only intended on one more baby after I had 3 naturally prior to my tubal removal which I shared ALL this supporting documentation to both the provider and the nurse. We paid most out of pocket but sadly Our wishes were not heard or valued. The doctor day of retrieval was DR Peterson, whom I’ll say was so sweet and understanding and wish had from beginning but was placed in a bad situation due to a colleague whom did not properly document or listen and when the nurse who knew of our wishes was asked about why not documented she merely stated “oh they stated that in passing.” Neglecting we had an entire conversation over the phone which I have documentation of and which was the same day she accessed my sisters chart for whom the eggs were to go to as we discussed. Never got true answers to my questions, poor documentation, and poor communication. It’s a true zoo inside the office in mount pleasant. I would not recommend this place given my own horrid experience and health risk, from medical professional standpoint myself, and recent lawsuits that have came about. Only advice here is use this site at your own risk.

Special thanks to Dr. McLaughlin and her team. God gave me the best team. Throughout the entire process, Dr. McLaughlin was caring, knowledgeable, thorough, and patient. She made me feel so comfortable and confident that after becoming pregnant, I did not want to leave for an OB-GYN. Excellent work, Dr. McLaughlin! We are extremely grateful to Dr. Cook and the entire Coastal Fertility team, who helped us welcome our son last month after one round of in vitro fertilization (IVF). From the beginning, their staff were outstanding—professional, compassionate, and supportive throughout. Our coordinator Lauren was also wonderful. She patiently guided us through every detail of IVF and communicated clearly, making a complex journey feel manageable. I had multiple negative and stressful interactions with my provider who is also the medical director, Dr. John Schnorr, and I would never recommend his clinic. He only cares about money. He will be extremely late to every appointment, never apologize, and act like he doesn't need your business, but he has plenty of time to call and threaten to discontinue treatment in the middle of a cycle because you have a huge surprise bill you were unaware of - which he couldn't even explain... the front desk clerks are clueless and only ever asked for a copay. Then it was like pulling teeth to get a call back from the financial office - simply to give an itemized explanation. I was happy to take care of the bill once I actually understood it. Dr. Schnorr was so rude and I wouldn't come back to this clinic if they paid me.

First, we are expecting our first baby in May 2026, all thanks to Coastal Fertility Specialists. Thank you for helping make our dream come true! ♡ When we began care at CFS, they mentioned that if cycle monitoring or IUI fell on a Sunday, we might need to visit the Mount Pleasant clinic. We did go to Mount Pleasant quite often, but we did not mind! The drive was peaceful, the area was quiet on Sunday mornings, the clinic was beautiful and clean, and the staff were always welcoming, friendly, and helpful! We did not catch most staff members’ names, but nurse Becky stood out. She was very kind and helped us tremendously when we needed it. My husband and I went to Coastal on our OB-GYN's recommendation, but we felt terrible after the initial consultation. We felt like two items on an assembly line, with no personalized care, attention, or treatment. Before leaving, we knew we needed at least one second opinion, and I am very glad we sought one. A patient coordinator followed up with us several times, and I told her we would seek a second opinion elsewhere. We transferred Coastal's IUI protocol to PREG and discovered that it included medications typically used for IVF, which concerned us greatly. We ultimately decided to continue treatment at PREG. After two medicated IUI cycles—using only one ovulation-induction medication rather than the two Coastal recommended—we finally conceived after more than 12 months of trying, and I am now 15 weeks pregnant. I told Coastal's patient coordinator that we had decided to go elsewhere, but they never asked why. I consider that a major red flag and a true reflection of how they treat and value the patient experience.

Our experience with Coastal Fertility Clinic in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, began when we went to the wrong clinic for our initial consultation. When we tried to check in, we were told there was no record of our appointment, and we were heartbroken. We could not believe our bad luck. What we did not know then was that God makes no mistakes; we were simply in the right place at the right time. Seeing how upset I was and the disappointment on my husband's face, the receptionist asked us to wait while she checked whether a doctor could see us. We waited... She returned and said, "Dr. Schnorr will fit you in." Those words immediately lifted our sadness. Even if he could do nothing, we simply wanted an answer so that we could move forward with our lives. We still struggle to describe how we felt when we first met Dr. Schnorr. If you have had the opportunity to meet him, you will understand. The moment we left the building, we knew we were in the right place and that he was the doctor we had been seeking. At every appointment, we felt peaceful and relaxed and always looked forward to seeing him. Whatever the circumstances, he had a remarkable way of making us feel that everything would be all right—and it was. I am now eight and a half months pregnant with our first child. We look forward to meeting our sweet baby boy in a few weeks and to the medical team meeting him. Our only suggestion is to involve husbands more fully in the process. We came as a couple, but after the semen collection, most communication focused on me as the woman. My husband is quiet, and we understand that the priority was protecting my health and preparing for embryo transfer, but at times he felt excluded from the discussion. Aside from that, Dr. John Schnorr, Nurse Mary Torres, Nurse Paige Feist, and the entire Coastal Fertility Specialists team, you completely changed our lives! Thank you for the exceptional knowledge and expertise you bring to your work. You made our path to parenthood feel so easy. We do not know how you do it, but you do it exceptionally well. We visited Coastal Fertility about a year ago. I wanted to leave a negative review then but held back. Ironically, we later met someone with a similar experience, so I hope this helps others. As soon as we arrived, we were sent for numerous tests, all followed by bad news. They recommended IVF rather than IUI. Although my wife was young and had no family history of low egg count, they also advised egg freezing. I do not understand why this clinic chose such an aggressive approach when other doctors recommended less invasive treatment. I will never return or recommend this clinic.

After an unpleasant experience at another Florida practice, I was very nervous about beginning a new treatment process. Although this review is late, I was a patient of the now-retired Dr. Slowey in 2022. I was extremely pleased because the practice exceeded every expectation. Dr. Slowey was so warm that it felt as though we had met before. Our nurse, Laura, was always calm, patient, and available—even when she technically was not—and provided important information in a clear, understandable way. I sometimes felt worried or overwhelmed, but she always reassured us that everything would be all right. The day we met, Dr. Slowey gave me great hope. At the end of our first appointment, he stood and shook our hands, but held mine and said, “We will help you.” And they did. Every 60- to 90-minute drive, every call and email, and every medication was worth it. My Coast baby was born on October 3, 2023. This would not have been possible without Dr. Slowey's help, nurse Laura's guidance, the laughter and encouragement of nurse practitioners Keshala and Megan at the Savannah office, and every staff member who cared for me. Thank God from the bottom of my heart—and thank you. ❤️

Dr. McLaughlin and the nurses and staff at Coastal Fertility are amazing! I initially requested a full evaluation because I suspected polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). The team patiently answered all my questions, cared for me attentively, and helped me understand the diagnosis. Once I became pregnant, they did so much to ease my anxiety. I highly recommend Coastal Fertility! I received intrauterine insemination (IUI) and in vitro fertilization (IVF) treatment here, and my baby is now due soon! The process was stressful and anxiety-inducing, but Dr. McLaughlin and Katrina did everything possible to make it easier—from the first introductions to the doctor, nurses, and financial team through every later conversation. They were always thoughtful and promptly helped whenever I had a question. Because I travel often for work, they always adjusted around my schedule so I would not miss a month. I cannot recommend Coastal Fertility Specialists highly enough. Throughout my IVF journey, I primarily visited the Savannah branch for monitoring, and went to the Mt. Pleasant office for my retrievals, transfers, and other major milestones. I was very anxious and overwhelmed, but the entire medical team and staff were incredibly kind and supportive. They truly helped me feel at ease, making the whole IVF process much more comfortable than I ever expected. A special thank you to Dr. McLaughlin and Dr. Schnoor. They were both so thorough and patient, taking the time to explain every detail and truly listening to my concerns. The people here are nice. My OB-GYN could not determine why my periods were irregular while I kept gaining weight, so I was referred here. They performed blood tests, which showed abnormal thyroid function, but they still had me undergo expensive, invasive testing. The receptionist showed no concern for my feelings or anxiety and made me feel embarrassed when I did not understand the testing process. In short, ladies, make sure to discuss thyroid issues thoroughly with your doctor. I think thyroid problems are more common than we realize, yet we are steered toward expensive and invasive testing. It is terrible. We should be more cautious.

My partner was admitted to this facility in September 2025, and we still have not received any information. It is now February 2026. After calling several times, he was told that nothing had been sent to his doctor and there was no record of any services. The insurance company has not received a bill—nothing. Somehow, no one can provide an answer or return a call. This lack of follow-up is worrying and frightening. I hope no one else has to experience this. I will keep calling until I get an answer. Extremely disappointing!

This office is extremely unprofessional. They quickly booked me and charged $75, but after I canceled within the refund window, everything slowed down. They said the refund would take two weeks; over a month later, I still have not received it. Worse, no one answers. Repeated calls to the front desk and finance went unanswered. This is frustrating and disrespectful. You never know someone’s finances. Withholding a refund while ignoring calls lacks respect and professionalism. I do not recommend this office.

I went through two unsuccessful IUI cycles. I saw a doctor at the Savannah clinic only once for the initial consultation and never again. My nurse performed both IUIs, and no one followed up afterward. This is a very sensitive process physically and emotionally, and considering the money we wasted, even one phone call would have made a difference. The only positive thing I can say about this place is that the staff I interacted with were friendly and easy to work with. Whoever writes the responses to negative Google reviews could learn a thing or two.

Their billing department clearly does not know what it is doing either. They kept mailing us bills for my husband's semen analysis after his doctor's referral, even though Tricare confirmed it covered the bill but had not received an invoice from the Savannah clinic.

I initially visited another fertility clinic in Savannah, but even after countless calls, they could not schedule a follow-up. I contacted Coastal Fertility, and they arranged for me to visit their Mount Pleasant office the following week. I went there twice, first for the initial consultation and then for a procedure. All subsequent follow-ups were in Savannah. I received excellent care there, and all test results came back quickly. The Savannah nurses were kind and made me feel comfortable. Their fees were reasonable, and my insurance covered a large portion. After an unsuccessful IUI at the other clinic, I became pregnant on my first attempt with them. I highly recommend them! I am ready for a second baby and will return soon.

I cannot say enough good things about Coastal Fertility. From my first phone inquiry to my graduation scan, everything was wonderful. Most of my treatment took place at the Savannah office, from seeing Shelly's bright smile at the front desk, to asking Ashley countless questions, to Myisha showing me my baby. The entire process was beautiful. Dr. Cook was also outstanding, always making sure I understood how treatment was progressing, answering all my questions, and thoughtfully accommodating our needs. I was very anxious throughout, but every conversation with the staff left me much more reassured. I knew they felt like family, and when the embryo transfer succeeded, hearing how excited they were for our family showed me that they viewed us as family too. I would recommend Coastal Fertility without hesitation to any family facing fertility issues. My only advice to families in Savannah is that you will need to make several trips to South Carolina. It is absolutely worth it, but be prepared. Many parts of the process can be handled at the Savannah office. Otherwise, let Coastal help make your dream come true, just as they did for me. We are now able to hold our baby, all thanks to Coastal Fertility Specialists. I am deeply grateful to our care team, Dr. Cook, Keshala, and Megan. I attended the Savannah clinic, where the receptionist and phlebotomist always welcomed me warmly. I had previously seen another reproductive endocrinologist in Savannah, but my experience at Coastal was far better than with that doctor and clinic in every respect. I have recommended Coastal to several people. I was also very concerned after the embryo mix-up became public. I shared my concerns with Megan, the nurse I often saw at the Savannah clinic. Dr. Cook called me within hours and explained in detail the additional procedures and verification measures the clinic had implemented to prevent a similar incident. I felt very reassured after speaking with her.

I hesitated to write this review because my husband and I are very private, but I felt that remaining silent would prevent me from helping others. Several months ago, I visited the Savannah clinic for an initial consultation. My husband and I only wanted help with insemination. We are both healthy adults, although somewhat overweight. The physician assistant/doctor—I cannot remember the name—wanted to discuss only weight loss and said that because I was in my early forties, I might need donor eggs by the time I reached the weight they considered appropriate. I have never felt so hurt or humiliated. They never discussed insemination at all. If you are overweight, do not visit this clinic. Why would they think that being overweight alone makes someone unfit to be a parent? How dare they say that!

I have been meaning to write a review, and now that I am almost three weeks postpartum, I finally can. The instructions were clear, the goals were well defined, and every question I asked, no matter how silly, was answered patiently. The staff were wonderful and very friendly, and I especially liked the women at the front desk. Thank you, Coastal Fertility! This was the longest and hardest journey of my life, but thanks to you, I now have a wonderful baby boy. Special thanks to Nurse Amber, who was very patient with me. A clean office and transparent pricing for outside monitoring services. However, I spent six months trying to obtain a refund for an overpayment. It was only $25, but they stopped responding. If you are a customer, I recommend avoiding advance payment whenever possible because any refund owed to you may not be returned. I am simply glad they did not owe me more. I will update my rating if they respond to my repeated follow-ups or I receive the check. Edit: Although the employee with whom I exchanged emails about this check never responded again, I called the number in the reply to this review. I do not know what happened or why the original attempt failed, but the employee who answered reissued the check. I have updated the rating to five stars despite the refund issue because they provide outside monitoring. Thank you.

Words cannot describe how Dr. Risterberg and Nurse Reese changed our lives. Because of them, we have a beautiful baby girl and feel incredibly blessed. Dr. Risterberg and Nurse Alex were the best team I could have asked for to help bring our second angel into the world. The care and compassion at the Nexton office are exceptional! My first and second IVF cycles at the Mount Pleasant office felt very robotic, almost like an assembly line. My previous doctor did not seem to notice or care that we had already experienced a failed transfer when giving exactly the same speech before our second transfer. I felt extremely discouraged and like just a number. Dr. R, Alex, and the entire Nexton front-desk team restored my confidence in the practice and made me feel more welcome and special during my third transfer. I recommend them to everyone I know who is beginning IVF!

I love this facility and its staff! My husband and I tried to conceive without success and decided to see a fertility specialist to determine what was happening. Dr. Peterson and Nurse Alex are truly a dream team. They eased all my anxiety while providing excellent, attentive care. Alex promptly answered my countless emails, and Dr. Peterson never made me feel afraid or anxious. I am officially four months pregnant with my baby boy, and I cannot thank them enough! Coastal Fertility gave me two wonderful sons, Shelton (3) and Theodore (1), and the baby girl I am now carrying, due in November. Dr. McLaughlin is amazing. She is very gentle and fully present during appointments and conversations. Alex always kept me updated. Everyone throughout the clinic, including ultrasound and laboratory staff, was always smiling and very friendly. I cannot remember her name, but one staff member performed my ultrasound and laboratory work at the Nexton location almost every time. She was always gentle and soft-spoken and made me feel valued. That meant so much to me, especially when they see the same things repeatedly. I am so grateful to you for giving me my perfect family. We cannot wait to meet you as a family of five.

After struggling to conceive on our own, my husband and I decided to visit Coastal Fertility Specialists, and I am so glad we did. Navigating infertility can be frightening, but Dr. Peterson and our nurse Alex were compassionate and provided attentive care. They answered all our questions and explained every step of the process in detail. I felt that every staff member went above and beyond to help us achieve our goal of having a child. After struggling with secondary infertility, I decided to contact Coastal. Dr. Reistenberg and our nurse Lauren were wonderful. Our first IVF cycle produced no viable embryos, so Dr. R changed my protocol, and the second cycle was a complete turnaround. We ultimately obtained 5 blastocysts, compared with 0 the first time. Dr. Reistenberg is very compassionate and advises you as she would a friend or sister. Lauren patiently answered every question, listened carefully, and always responded promptly to emails. I had two egg retrievals at the Mt. Pleasant clinic, and the staff seemed somewhat mechanical both times, but I work in surgery and understand. It was not a major issue. I am now 14 weeks pregnant with our rainbow baby. I am incredibly grateful to Coastal Fertility Specialists for helping complete our little family. I will always be grateful from the bottom of my heart. You are the best!

First, I want to say that we are expecting our first baby in May 2026, all thanks to Coastal Fertility Specialists. Thank you for helping make our dream come true! ♡ We visited the Summerville office only once for the ultrasound confirming our pregnancy. We heard our baby’s heartbeat for the first time and saw our little one resting comfortably in the uterus. It was so special. My husband and I are expecting our first baby, and this has been an amazing experience with so many wonderful people. Dr. Reistenberg was a true blessing to us. She patiently guided us through every step, even when I was nervous. She was warm and approachable and answered all our questions, which I greatly appreciated. I do not want other patients to be misled. A clinic having credentials does not mean it is always right—advocate for yourself. Coastal Fertility's claim that delaying conception or stopping treatment was ‘to avoid harming me’ is not supported by current reproductive endocrinology. Once ovulatory cycles resume, fertility evaluation and treatment can safely begin, even during breastfeeding. - McNeilly, Human Reproduction Update, 2001 - American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) Practice Committee - American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) Committee Opinion Bioidentical progesterone supplementation is safe during breastfeeding, transfers into breast milk only minimally, and has no known harm to the infant or lactation. - Di Renzo et al., American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, 2005 - Wren et al., Fertility and Sterility, 2012 - LactMed database; Hale & Rowe, Medications and Mothers' Milk NaProTechnology and restorative reproductive medicine emphasize cycle-based hormone monitoring, early post-ovulation progesterone supplementation, and individualized dosing for luteal phase defects and recurrent miscarriage. —Hilgers, NaProTechnology: A Clinician's Guide, 2015 Making patients wait several months or even a full year postpartum, or denying treatment based on policy rather than physiology, exposes them to unnecessary risk rather than ‘protecting’ them. More facts, fewer ‘feelings’ Timing of policy disclosure: If a clinic requires patients to wait until one year postpartum or until they stop breastfeeding before receiving progesterone support, this should be disclosed at the first visit. Be sure to bring a support person to your initial consultation so there can be no later dispute about what was or was not disclosed. Record the visit if possible. South Carolina is a one-party consent state. Waiting until one or two treatment cycles later to tell a patient is a serious omission. It forces patients into limbo for months, delays care, and exposes them to unnecessary risk. This delay is not trivial; it has real clinical consequences. In short, this is withholding or omitting material information, which is ethically problematic because it affects a patient's ability to make timely, informed treatment decisions. Inconsistent enforcement: A friend of mine received progesterone support at the same clinic six years ago, although at a different location, raising the question of whether this is truly clinic policy or an individual physician's preference. If I had to guess, it is the latter. Inconsistent enforcement suggests arbitrariness, undermines trust, and prevents patients from making informed decisions.

I am writing this review to formally document my experience at Coastal Fertility Specialists (Nexton), specifically the denial of treatment that I believe lacked medical justification and conflicted with current evidence-based reproductive medicine. My expectations for care are informed by NaProTechnology, a science-based, physician-directed approach to fertility treatment that emphasizes identifying and treating underlying causes through detailed cycle monitoring, hormonal assessment, and targeted bioidentical hormone support. Although there are no locally certified NaPro physicians, its medical standards have been peer reviewed and are widely recognized. From my first visit, I encountered resistance to individualized evaluation. The clinic refused to review my laboratory results from the previous five years, when I was neither postpartum nor breastfeeding, even though this is standard practice in reproductive care for establishing baseline hormone function and diagnosing luteal phase defects. My concerns about painful periods since adolescence were dismissed without further investigation. My current physician, who supports restorative reproductive principles, has arranged an evaluation for endometriosis. Endometriosis is known to affect progesterone production, implantation, and fertility outcomes. Coastal Fertility refused to pursue or consider this diagnostic path. The clinic tested my serum iron level but did not test ferritin. Ferritin is the appropriate measure of iron stores and has significant clinical relevance to fertility, implantation, and menstrual health. Ferritin deficiency can occur even when iron levels appear normal. My subclinical polycystic ovary syndrome and subclinical hypothyroidism did not receive a comprehensive endocrine evaluation, and I was told the cause of my progesterone deficiency could not be determined. This conflicts with restorative reproductive medicine, which emphasizes identifying and treating luteal phase dysfunction rather than dismissing it as unexplained. I was also denied ongoing progesterone monitoring, despite progesterone being essential for implantation and early pregnancy support. While using 600 mg of vaginal progesterone, my Peak+3/4 level was only 7.9 ng/mL, well below the generally accepted minimum threshold associated with successful implantation and early pregnancy support, approximately 10 ng/mL. This strongly suggested an absorption issue, but it was not addressed. The physician strongly urged me to stop breastfeeding to continue treatment. I was later told that clinic policy supposedly denies fertility treatment to patients who are breastfeeding and less than one year postpartum. This policy was not disclosed at my initial visit and is inconsistent with current evidence. Fertility can return within months after delivery. In my case, my menstrual cycles typically return at 6 weeks postpartum, indicating early recovery of endocrine function. Restorative fertility approaches, including NaProTechnology, support evaluation and treatment once regular menstrual cycles resume, including for breastfeeding women. The physician also questioned the use of bioidentical progesterone during breastfeeding, even at therapeutic doses. However, evidence shows that very little bioidentical progesterone enters breast milk and that no harm to infants or milk production has been identified. It is routinely used in postpartum restorative fertility treatment. This review is intended to show that patients with hormone deficiencies, painful periods, recurrent miscarriage, or postpartum fertility concerns may encounter rigid protocols instead of individualized, evidence-based care. Patients deserve comprehensive evaluation, appropriate laboratory testing, and treatment that reflects current reproductive science, not blanket policies or selective application of research. I hope this feedback encourages greater transparency and a more comprehensive approach to care in the future.

I struggled with infertility for a long time. After being referred to Coastal for a hysterosalpingogram (HSG) to check for blocked fallopian tubes, I felt at ease as soon as I met Dr. Riestenberg. I knew I had stage IV endometriosis, so we decided to retrieve eggs first, then perform excision surgery (including opening the blocked tubes), followed by a frozen embryo transfer (FET). Thankfully, our first attempt succeeded, and we now feel incredibly fortunate as we await our miracle baby! Dr. Riestenberg made me feel relaxed and never judged or dismissed. She patiently listened to my questions and concerns throughout the process. The nurses were also wonderful, and I am truly grateful to them! My only caution is that even if your fertility insurance provides “100% coverage,” many items may not be covered. I sometimes received unexpected bills, so I recommend reviewing your plan and cost estimate beforehand.
