Fecundación in vitro (IVF)

My husband and I, both 24, came to RMA simply to ensure we could have healthy children in the future. I had a prior injury and had been taking birth control. After several painful, extensive tests, I was told I was very healthy with no problems. The only possible concern mentioned was my husband's potentially low sperm count, but even that was unconfirmed and needed repeat testing. From the beginning, I clearly told everyone I spoke with, including Dr. Thorne and the financial department, that we were young and healthy and could not afford any out-of-pocket costs. We paid high insurance premiums, and I stated that I would only accept tests and treatments fully covered by insurance. During more than a month with this practice, communication was terrible. RMA said it had a team of about nine people, but it was almost impossible to reach Dr. Thorne, the financial department, or any staff member when needed. Calls went unanswered, and no one could be reached directly. The portal was the only workable option, and even there replies took days. Courtney Blair in finance was especially difficult to reach. After about a month, they told me IVF was my only path to pregnancy, even though they repeatedly said I was healthy and the only possible issue was my husband's sperm count. More concerning, I knew nothing about IVF at the time and specifically asked them to explain the process, risks, alternatives, and disadvantages. They never mentioned anything negative or any concerns. Instead, they heavily promoted IVF, which I found very unprofessional for a young, healthy patient. I had to do all the research myself, showing that education and patient care were not priorities. Only after IVF was mentioned did I finally reach someone in finance. I asked them to call my insurer with me to verify costs and coverage. I then learned that most procedures were not covered, I could receive bills for unknown amounts, and IVF itself was not covered and would cost $20,000. When I asked why I had previously been told there would be no out-of-pocket costs, they said it was a mistake and offered nothing beyond an apology. I immediately stopped working with RMA. Months later, I received several bills totaling nearly $2,000 out of pocket. Some were lost in the mail and sent to collections, causing further unnecessary stress. Worse, only one month later my husband and I conceived naturally without IVF. No one explained IVF objectively or transparently. Once it was recommended, I began receiving daily calls that felt aggressive and sales-focused rather than supportive or medical. For such an expensive practice, RMA urgently needs to improve communication, transparency, and patient education. This experience made me feel they cared about money rather than medicine. If you are young and healthy, I do not recommend wasting your time or money here. Most importantly, stay in contact with both the clinic and your insurer while verifying coverage. I was left with only an apology and bills I could not afford.

I had an excellent IVF experience under the care of Dr. Gutmann and the RMA team. The doctors were always happy to answer any questions or concerns. I had worried that the process would be very difficult, but my interactions with the team left me feeling hopeful and highly supported. I have recommended her to friends.

I truly cannot put into words how grateful I am to the entire RMA team. They completely changed my life. Because of them, we now have a healthy, beautiful baby boy—everything we dreamed of. If you are considering fertility treatment, trust me: you are in safe hands. The doctors and nurses do more than treat patients; they help build families. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping make my dream come true.

Dr. Thorne is wonderful. I could not have found a better doctor.

I will try to keep this review objective and fair. Before choosing RMA, three different couples warned us about different issues. We did not encounter many of the problems they described and were generally satisfied with the medical care. The clinical staff were friendly and did an excellent job throughout. Our problem was with management, which accepted no responsibility. This was similar to one couple’s experience, although theirs involved medical care and ours involved finances. In late December 2024, a doctor walked us through the process. She pulled up our insurance information, directly told us that the preliminary work, lab tests, and other preparation were covered, and recommended starting immediately. We knew we had not met our 2024 deductible, but hearing ‘covered’ led us to expect a bill of $50 or perhaps a few hundred dollars. Our December treatment cost more than $1,000. I was shocked but paid it. In March, I described the process to a friend in insurance, whose first question was, ‘You waited until the new year to begin treatment, right?’ Ultimately, patients are responsible for understanding their coverage, and I accept that, but what we were directly told was inappropriate, especially in late December. Several medical and insurance professionals said that if a doctor was going to advise us about insurance and timing, the obvious recommendation should have been to wait until January 1 because this process would generate substantial medical expenses. Most were surprised that a doctor discussed insurance rather than referring us to the financial team. They suggested contacting RMA, explaining the situation, and asking them to waive the final bill of about $700. RMA said they could not waive the patient portion. I tried to understand why, but they only said it was impossible. The professionals I consulted said that made no sense. I returned to RMA and asked for another fair solution. From March or April through August, I discussed the issue with Jodie B. in finance. After countless messages and sporadic replies, they said this week that nothing could be done. In short, they consider it my fault and will do nothing to help find a solution. I accept my responsibility. In hindsight, it was foolish not to wait two weeks or ask for exact costs, but RMA advised us to start in December and said it was covered. I trusted their guidance, and that was my mistake. I still believe they could do something; I even suggested a credit toward future services. Based on the feedback we received about RMA, people should remember that some organizations put patients first and others put business first. Our issue was financial, but it resembles other feedback we heard about RMA. Be very careful when working with them, because business comes first. I still believe RMA can correct this situation and hope they will contact me if they want to resolve it.

I do not know how to express my gratitude to the entire RMA team. They completely changed my life—not once, but twice. Dr. Friedman made my dream of motherhood come true with my first child. His expertise, compassion, and dedication gave me hope when it seemed out of reach. During my second journey, Dr. Thorne and my amazing nurse Michelle were incredible. They held my hand through every step, every fear, and every question. They gave me the strength, reassurance, and care to believe that a miracle could happen again. Thanks to them, I am now pregnant with my second child, something I once believed would never be possible. To anyone considering fertility treatment, trust that you are receiving the best care here. These doctors and nurses are not merely doing their jobs—they are changing lives and creating families. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for giving me the family I always dreamed of.

My wife and I began this journey on January 6, 2025, hoping she would be pregnant🤰 by at least April. The journey started out very exciting and joyful, but became sad and frustrating as it progressed. After every procedure, test, blood draw, or anything else, nothing was found that should prevent my wife from becoming pregnant🤰. It seems RMA is looking for problems with my wife and giving us false hope!!!! After every test and procedure, everything was fine...except for some minor issues that had to be cleared by her PCP. Every time we take a step forward and think we are ready to begin the process...there is something else!!!!!! A clearance letter from the PCP was provided...oh, that is unacceptable!!!!!! My wife has had two children, one 10 and one 4, without any problems. We may not move forward😔 They will only find something else to delay us further from starting the process of having a baby👶 What is the point? My wife has seen the same doctor since she was a teenager. If her doctor cleared her, who are you to say otherwise🤔 You requested two clearance letters, then rejected both. This has brought nothing but stress and frustration. We are close to giving up on RMA and switching to another company that will show us more compassion instead of making us feel the way we do now.

I had a good experience with the care at RMA, but their office did not communicate in a timely or professional manner. Two months ago, I submitted an affidavit that needed to be signed and notarized, which they had agreed to and we had discussed in advance. Since then, they told me the document was lost even though I provided two copies, gave me conflicting information about where to pick it up, found it again, and repeatedly told me it would be ready soon. Two months later, it is still unsigned, and despite waiting thirty minutes, I could not reach anyone by phone for information. This may sound like something that would not affect your particular situation. In reality, this is a legal matter with a deadline, but the issue could affect anyone who needs to communicate with them about care or records, especially if a timely response is needed. Based on how the office staff handled this, I will not return to RMA. Update: They called to tell me they mailed the affidavit. We had clearly asked them to call us when it was ready so we could deliver it ourselves. They have no proof of mailing or tracking information.

Dr. Thorne, PA Anu, and the staff were amazing. They helped my husband and me become pregnant quickly and efficiently. The staff, medical assistants, and phlebotomists at the Abington clinic were also very friendly and welcoming. My dedicated nurse Michelle always responded quickly, and on weekdays she always replied the same day. Communicating with Michele was very helpful, especially during such an uncertain time. Dr. Thorne also returned my call quickly when I thought something was wrong. Thank you, RMA! I highly recommend Dr. Thorne and his team!

They made a challenging journey feel hopeful and supported. Everyone was kind, professional, and attentive throughout the process. We always felt cared for and fully informed. Words cannot express our gratitude—highly recommended to anyone seeking fertility support.

I remember an ultrasound follow-up when I had nearly lost all hope. Dr. Thorne looked at me, smiled, and said, 'That is a baby...' 9 months later, we welcomed our miracle baby, and we could not be more grateful to RMA. Our family is now complete ❤️
