Dr. Rachel Mandelbaum, United States
Rachel Mandelbaum, M.D., has joined HRC Fertility's physician team and sees patients at the West Los Angeles and Beverly Hills offices.
Dr. Rachel Mandelbaum is an obstetrician-gynecologist and reproductive endocrinology and infertility specialist. She is committed to using advanced technology and science to help patients navigate their fertility journeys through evidence-based care. She believes in a comprehensive approach to fertility, with attention to nutrition and physical and mental well-being during treatment.
Dr. Mandelbaum has published more than 100 peer-reviewed papers, making significant contributions to reproductive medicine and women's health. Her experiences building her own family and helping other patients through IVF have inspired her passion for and commitment to research. She created "needle-free IVF," a novel method of administering IVF medications through a subcutaneous catheter that eliminates self-injections at home. After seeing how injections can intensify the stress of fertility treatment, she pioneered this method to make the process easier and more accessible for patients. The technique has positively affected her own journey and those of many patients to date. She has also published new protocols for ovarian stimulation and frozen embryo transfer that aim to optimize pregnancy rates while minimizing injections.
Dr. Mandelbaum also actively collaborates with Dr. Magdalena Zernicka Goetz at Caltech, supporting translational research on the earliest stages of embryonic development. She considers this research essential to understanding the science of implantation, pregnancy, and miscarriage.
Dr. Mandelbaum remains a clinical faculty member at USC, where she trained for seven years. She is passionate about teaching residents, fellows, and medical students. She is fluent in English and Spanish.
A Los Angeles native, Dr. Mandelbaum attended the Archer School for Girls, then earned her undergraduate degree from Washington University in St. Louis, majoring in anthropology and women, gender, and sexuality studies. She completed medical school at UCLA and graduate medical training at USC. She and her husband, orthopedic surgeon Dr. Landon Polakof, have two sons.
